Piwik or Google Analytics

I'm wondering whether to install Piwik or Google Analytics to get statistics about my website visitors?

Both are free but Piwik allows you to keep the data on your own server whereas Google Analytics of course who knows how much Google uses the data you provide them

I'm having a bit of trouble getting Piwik to install so I know Google analytics would be easier?

What do people recommend and is it best to keep my websites data away from Google at all costs and persevere with something like Piwik instead?

  • I prefer Google analytics. We are using analytics and its is easy for implementing and will provide a detailed analysis.
  • Is it risky for ranking in Google though? I've heard while there is no proof as Google denies it but some say they could use the data they collect against you for ranking purposes?
