Header Tags - PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi all,

I've been SEOing the heck out of my site over the past few days (many thanks to all those that have helped me this week )

I final question (I hope) relates to Header Tags, and in particular the use of the H1 & H2.

Here's how my pages are currently structured....

I have a title (I use this as the meta title), main introduction paragraph (all in bold - I use this as the meta description) and then a main text body area.

Could someone please give me your thoughts on how I should use the H1 - H6 tags?

I was thinking of the following:-

Title (use as Meta Title AND H1)

Intro Paragraph (use as Meta Description AND H2)

Main Body Text (pull out the sub headings and create H3's for all these).

Ignore H4 - H6.

Thanks
Martin

    Hi Martin,

There are no hard and fast rules on how to use or abuse heading tags.

I personally like to stick to semantically correct markup, so I do not put entire paragraphs into heading tags. Besides, any potential SEO benefit would be diluted by including too much within the heading tag.

I generally put the page headline in the h1 tag and it's not always the same as the page title but usually very close to the same. I frequently use a sub-headline so that goes within an h2 tag and h3 tags for section headings. h4 - h6 are rarely used but may use them as sub-section headers on rare occasions.
