Is there any disadvantage or penalty if you paused your google campaign for a week?

Will this affect my campaign badly once I resume it later?
Will the QS dropped or the account history or anything reset?

and by the way, if I have a few keywords that have 0 click but with high impression and it had been a week..should I cull those keyword despite that my ads position are around 3rd~4th place with 7 QS?

Need some opinion from you guys about it.

    Hi K,

I used to do a lot of PPC but don't now so hopefully my advice is still up to date.

Pausing is never a problem and shouldn't affect any of your QS issues or the like.

If you are not getting clicks, experiment with different ads - I highly recommend James Schramko's Double Digit CTR PPC course (which I'm not affiliated with any way).

Also, use the free version of WebCEO to optimize your pages for certain keywords. When I used it, my QS was always at least a 7/10 (Good) and sometimes Great.

Perry Belcher is another hardcore PPC nut who has a lot of valuable advice to share (Google him).

There is no disadvantage or penalties by pausing your ads, groups or campaigns. Once you unpause, everything will be back as it was.

You probably haven't got any clicks because your ad is irrelevant to what people are looking for. Your QS will likely fall now that Google knows this, especially once you get a few hundred impressions. Usually, you remove that keyword, maybe split it off to another group with more relevant ads. But sometimes you just don't get any clicks on a keyword. It happens.

I can't speak about PPC but I can talk about organic and my backlinking. I laid off my backlinking for two weeks and my sites actually went up a little in the SERPs.

No problem in pausing it. Whatever you have achieved will not be affected.

As for the keywords that have high impression and no clicks, you should pause it.

For me, when there is not clicks after 100 impressions, I will pause that particular keyword.

This way, you will be able to maintain the good quality score for the PPC account.

Try changing your ad... one reason why people are not clicking your ad is that your ads are not that appealing to their eyes.. try split testing ads and see what stick.. if there are impressions with no clicks, the problem is with the ads..

    goodluck

Never heard of negative effect when it comes to pausing a PPC campaign other than the fact that you make no money while paused .....

Although it's recommended to pause a campaign only if its absolutely necessary, pausing it will not negatively effect your history, QS or any other elements. But I caution against doing the, start/pause, start/pause, start/pause too loosely.

and by the way, if I have a few keywords that have 0 click but with high impression and it had been a week..should I cull those keyword despite that my ads position are around 3rd~4th place with 7 QS?
You should pause or delete keywords that receive between 100-150 impressions and 0 clicks. Be sure to double check that your ad headline and text is targeted towards those keywords or you could risk losing some potentially good keywords. But any keywords that do not receive a click or more after that many impressions, is not worth hanging onto. That applies to the Search side of PPC, not the Content Network side.

A Respectful Comment to dave147's statement...

pausing or deleting>undeleting campaigns has never had a negative effect on my campaigns so I'd say there is no disadvantage or penalty
While pausing has no real effects, delete a 'campaign' entirely and then re-establishing it can have effects, depends on the situation.

I would suggest only delete a campaign if you have no intentions of making it active again, or if you plan to re-activate it under a new name.
