Google Limits Keyword Planner search Amounts

Hello guys, Google officially throttled Keyword Planner data for low spending AdWords accounts. Therefore if you are a free user of the tool or you do not spend a substantial amount on ads you will not get any search results when using the tool. See image below.



This is going to cause problems for those doing SEO marketing who does not have a big adwords account.What are your opinion on this matter?

  • That's right. For that reason, keyword tools like Long Tail Pro and Market Samurai will not be able to give you search data because those tools depend on your individual account.

    I've foreseen this problem coming so I created my tool where it does not rely on user's Adword account and would just work right when you sign in.

    Keep in mind that "big spenders" still get to see these Search Volume in details. Just that Google won't disclose what is considered to be "big spending".

  • I have been using this tool since 2010 and I haven’t seen any significant changes. Keywords planner is still displaying data in the same manner as it was showing earlier.

    Sure, it might cause you problems because you have no clue as to what you are doing.

    Don't lump everyone in with you.

    Keyword planner has nothing to do with anyone's SEO.....except yours.

    • What an absolutely and utterly ridiculous post. Who has better information about queries to their dataset on what people search for in their search engine than Google? Go ahead show us a potentially more RELIABLE data source than Google.

      There is none and there can be none unless you are the NSA hacking into google's data base tables.

      I at least am not. I am lumping you among those that are clueless on SEO (outside of buying links) and don;t know that most of the industry uses Keyword planner data either directly or indirectly.

      You've really exposed yourself this time and giving horrible advice and a baffling view of what SEO is.

      Please never let me see you complaining about Indian SEOs again. Thats the most absurd statement made on this forum. Anyone can do a search on google and see just about every major SEo training and news reporting site covering the keyword planner and in years gone by the keyword tool.

      Now are there less than direct and not as reliable work arounds? sure ...almost always but to say it doesn't affect SEO is just asinine. Its like there are three or four long term posters here that just use google turning off data to try and fake like they are SEO gurus by saying "it doesn't matter what Google shuts off because we are so brilliant we never needed or used any data from google".

    • It's a huge problem if google keyword is showing 1k to 10k range instead of the rather exact numbers .

  • I haven't noticed any change yet. It wouldn't be the end of the world though if that was the case, there are many alternatives out there if you know where to look.
  • Google is now catching up on old accounts. Anyone else started to notice the changes?
  • Is there any point in purchasing long tail pro right now then? Or just wait until they come up with a solution?

    Any decently priced alternatives?

    • My tool is an affordable alternative and it does not use your Adword account. We use our own Adword account to get the search volume data from Google.
    • Longtail pro has stated they are trying a work around so do not buy as yet

  • Mike Anthony is right, without Search Volume data, how do you prioritize your keyword optimization? And if the search volume data doesn't come from Google itself, how do you know it's accurate?

    Our tool is still getting search volume data directly from Google Adword because we've been doing it from the beginning while Long Tail Pro relying on user's Adword account. So when Google decides to get rid of small players (the average users), that's where Long Tail Pro software stops working.

  • I don't know why Google is playing with this? Adwords is the highest earning product for them and keyword searches are basically attracts more customers to adwords. As per their reason, to stop bulk queries, they can put restriction on API. Why on manual queries. And once your campaign starts, opportunity tab is enough to add more keywords, nobody needs keyword planner. Keyword planner is needed before you start the campaign.
  • What I have seen so far now is that the new adwords accounts with less or no ad spending were affected. However, got to know from many of my friends that gradually the older adwords accounts are also getting impacted by Google's throttling.

    Having said that, I agree with most of you out here, that tools like Long Tail Pro and Market Samurai (who depend on the feed from individual adwords account) will cease to function accurately.

    the other vendors don't have same data google has

    i used Long Tail Pro but they are tied to google

    it sucks!
  • Market Samurai is switching their search results data to Bing. Noble Samurai - Recent Changes to Market Samurai

    But... as far as I can tell, this hasn't happened yet as my copy no longer works. It's very frustrating.

    BTW: I have it installed on 2 machines, the one that has been updated no longer gathers keyword data, the one that HASN'T been updated DOES still collect data, but it's the new truncated version as per the change. (ie, 10,100, 1000 etc - no specific numbers)

    • Seriously, why pay for software that is either not working or giving you BS numbers? If you need search volume data from Google then getting it from Bing doesn't make sense. My tool lets you get search volume data from Google for any keywords you want. You can either put in your own list of keywords and get search volume data for them, or you can generate the keywords using the tool and it gives you search volume data for all of them. All of this without the need of your own Adword account. Our tool uses our own Adword account so you never have to worry about how much to spend on your account to get the accurate data.
