II have a not so competetive niche, a local carpet & upholstery cleaners.

I made some great progress getting my website to page 2 over about an 8 month period, for the last 2 months im stuck.

it seems like im building backlink after backlink copying my competitors, but never get further.

what should I change about my website:

  • Work on making your title tags attention getting and the meta descriptions something so compelling, people will HAVE TO click on your listing. If you start getting more clicks than the sites that are ranking above you, you will pass them.

  • I agree with what someone else mentioned above - if backlinks aren't doing it then look elsewhere. Try making some tweaks to your meta data, and maybe throwing the keyphrases into your content another time or two if possible.

  • I wouldn't bother with changing title tags and meta descriptions to get clicks. You are just as likely to screw something up and hurt your rankings as you are to help them.

Besides, nobody is looking on page 2 anyhow.

If there are better titles you can use from an SEO perspective, sure edit them, but I would not do it thinking it is gong to help with clicks.

Have you been building citations? You are a local business. That should be your primary focus.

Also, get rid of the sliding bar at the top of the screen. I forget what Avada calls it. It is causing the word 'test' to show up twice on your page as the very first thing on your page.

The Smart Business Directory you are linking to in your sidebar is a dead link.

I would get rid of the links to the other directories too. It's fine if you keep the image and messages that you are listed in them, but why give them a link? Plus, if anyone does click on them, they might just search for another service.

Just a couple of things I saw at a quick glance.
  • Its mostly an on page issue. Try to replicate the keyword density of your competitors.
