Most important topic onto the home page. What do you think ?

Hi there,
I've seen many new websites with the most important topic written onto the home page.
I tried to look for "What to put onto the home page 2016" and it seems that a new trend is to avoid to create home pages with snippets of arguments treated in the site.
For example:
A dentist who is specialized on gingivitis (but he/she does additoinal dental services as well) should put onto the home page the article/description about gengivitis instead of to list all the services he/she provides.
In this way the topic onto the home page will benefit from all the backlinks pointing to it.

The explanation I found says that a messed up home page with a lot of arguments and keywords is totally useless. Istead it is better to focus on one or two keywords and put the most important topic directly on the most important page of the website.

Is it something you can agree with ?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

This can be the case. But I would not have more then about 3 top keywords for your niche on your home page. But if it has good content then it should rank well regardless. I see a lot of sales page do this but there main traffic source is usually via affiliates so they are really not trying to rank well in search engines over the long run (it varies).

But if you have different subjects about the same niche then create different pages linked from the home page and use targeted keywords related to the niche on those pages. And have them pages linked back to the home page.

The homepage should have the following:

    Links to all the posts
    Valuable content for the user.
Optional - you can also write a long article about the keyword and use it on the homepage.

The home page most likely is an intro to the site. That's it. It's an index page.

Hence, default homepages are set up server-side to be index.php, etc.

It's an index of your website. I've never bought into some featured article nonsense.

But, I'll bet on threads about duplicate content, you also cry about having duplicate content....

    Go figure.

Any dentist would not have a complete explanation on a specialty. Just one sentence. Not to mention that a real dentist would not give a rat's behind about some seo BS.

Thank you to all for your precious advices.

Here is what I'm going to do.
Let's say the site is for a dentist specialized in gengivitis and the domain name is dentist.com.

I'll put the gengivitis topic onto the home page otpimizing it with "gengivitis" as primary key and also using "swollen gums" and "bleeding gums" as secondary keys.
Then I will create a single secondary page for each servise:
    - dentist.com/tooth-deacy
    - dentist.com/root-canal
    - dentist.com/dental-x-rays

Gengivitis is connected with tooth-day, root canal and dental-x-rays so there will be links from the home page to the secondary pages and back.

What do you think about this website structure organization ?

Thank you in advance for your answers.
