One thing to mention about this, for a lot of geo-specific TLD's you cannot use WHOIS privacy if that is something that is important to you. For example, if you register a .us domain, privacy is not allowed. I know someone that spent $500 on a domain before learning that the hard way.

GoDaddy and Namecheap do not allow it on .co.uk domains either. Not positive if some other registrars do or do not. Someone told me that some do, but I have not confirmed that myself.

For the .us domains, I believe it is a ICANN policy, so no registrar will be able to get around that.

I've started looking into this concept after reading this post, looking at expireddomains and seeing what I can do with them. Thanks for the post, found a few other good tutorials on the logistics of setting them up as well.

What are you using to scrape these domains?
I looked into lazarus NEW Project Lazarus: Expired Domain Crawler Scraper

5 years into SEO and I still haven't' built a single PBN. My lazy ass has been buying it left and right.

30 PBN's....to get my main keyword to rank 1. FML.

Just to confirm some hosts do allow privacy on .uk domains if anyone's interested.

Fasthosts is now offering a new Privacy Service for new and existing .uk domains. Either visit your Fasthosts Control Panel and simply add the service, or add Privacy as you buy new domains..
      123-reg is another.

I've yet to see an expired domain crawler nowadays that delivered great domains. At this point there are so many out there crawling for years that its mostly junk. do they spit out what looks like might be good domains? Yep but once you research the domains you realize why they are still there - deindexed, chock full of spam links or previously used for spammy things.

The tools can't check for all that. Still if you want a link on a site that you think will be good for traffic etc then it might be worth a shot

Good to hear from you btw.

So is everything done manual as far as finding expired domains?

You can get lists from auctions and expiring domains have a "drop list" you can download from several sources. There are a few tools you can then stick them into and do some analysis. Sites like registercompass, Domcop and expireddomains.net have filtering tools as well.
