Wordpress URL 301 & duplicate insecurities

Hi People!
Currently optimizing my first Wordpress site for SEO to get all the technical aspects right. Obviously I'm running into some problems and insecurities.
Issue is as follows:
http://website.com/page/custompost/ > this should be the canonical
When typing http://website.com/custompost > automatically switches to > http://website.com/page/custompost/
Same when typing:
http://website.com/custom
http://website.com/custo
http://website.com/cust
and so on....
Other info:
• Using self-hosted Wordpress
• Using SEO Yoast
• Using the CPT UI plugin
Question:
Is this SEO Yoast automatically 301-redirecting or is this a duplicate content issue? Or why does this happen? Shouldn't a http://website.com/cu just get a 404?
