Hey guys, I manage a Florida lifestyle clothing line, mainly represents the passion for living in Florida with pictures and on garments. I have an instagram account with about 4K followers and thats where all of my traffic is being sent from currently, then directed to my shopify store.

Iv had about 10 sales from instagram and that is it. Not bad for two months but its all through clicking my link in the bio of my account.

But my struggle right now is choosing which keywords to rank for. How do I find the keywords or target audience who have a passion for the state of Florida? It seems to be the younger crowd, ages 15-30's. But Iv tried doing a google keyword research tool but can't seem to figure anything out.

A competitor who does something similar has blown up, but I don't see any serious keywords for the reasons why they drive in so much traffic. I believe they got big because of word of mouth and holding local events.

How should I go about this with finding the correct SEO keywords to rank for?

    hi,

I can't speak for your site, this being said, you will need to do keyword research and competitor analysis. Those two should give you best keywords for your site to rank for.

You have asked about keywords and Target audience. Well, you'll have to figure out the target audience yourself. I would advise you to find that first and then plan further. For this you can look at your sales / inquiry data to get a trend. Or you can look at your competitor's promotions.
As far as keywords are concerned, Google Adwords keyword planner tool can be a great help. Fill in some generic terms related to your products, along with the location and landing page of your website and you will get a lot of suggestions. Since you are just starting off, so try and target 'medium to low' competition keywords in your campaigns.

To be honest drop the thought of ranking your site over SERPs as that wont be possible since you are in a very broad niche and most of the terms would be dominated by the top authority sites and you wont get any space.

But no need to lose hope as you said you got a Insta Account with 4K followers grow that up and provide quality content to visitors, change bio links regularly, provide discounts. Spend some time understanding Facebook and Instagram Ads, Spend some bucks over Advert campaigns. Usually all the shopify stores bring in customers from Facebook ads only so you should give that a try.

Instagram relies to keywords to attact people to your posts before they start to follow you. Look at the keywords you have been using there. Also see what keywords sites that sell similar stuff to your are using.

My tip is to AMP UP instagram and post more #floridafashion #fallfashion #styleflorida pics.

Next connect your clothing line to high volume, low competition keywords about Florida. For example, beach resorts florida (1k-10K, low), Cool things to wear in beach resorts in Florida; florida keys (10k-100k, low) What to pack for your florida keys vacation.

I, too, find it very unlikely that you will find any keyword phrases with high search volumes and low competition in the Florida T-shirts niche. My marketing would be solely social for a site like that. I'd start following every site that talked about Florida, its beaches, attractions, real estate, etc. I'd share all of the content I could find on social networks with your website's branded logo. I'd try to publish my own Florida articles after accumulating more followers on my blog. Some of those who visit the blog may like your T-shirts. That's about all you can do when organic is impossible and advertising costs more than your profit is.

It's pretty good that you're even getting traffic from the link in your Bio on instagram, you usually need many tens of thousands of followers to make it really viable.

Targeting keywords are the best way to get you the traffic you're looking for. A lot of people use Google's Adwords researching tool. They type in a key phrase, for example "Florida trendy t-shirts" and it will give you results of what people are typing in to find related content.

Here are some tools to get you started:

    Google Keyword Planner
    Google Trends
    Ubersuggest

I think for this one you need to assess what you want to do, is it to rank or to sell? Of course they are inter related but you need to focus on what is more important. You said you have a competitor, personally, I would engage the audience you currently have in the manner that your competitor does. Events are great, but are you ready for them? Start with social sharing, get feedback from your clients, have contests and giveaways.

This is the same dilemma I faced recently. Client has product line in jewellery where design is based on ancestral symbols and she though about targeting by those symbol name. There isn't much searches based on those keywords. I had to go with broad keywords like charms, bracelets etc. So the same is the case with you.

  • You have a site and you have minimal sales for the last two months. Don't give up, do your research and create your buyer personas. What is your crowd and determine how to engage them, you said something about people who love Florida, then start from sites advocating Florida, guest blog and offer your website.

Your Instagram account is doing great? Develop keywords/hashtags that would link to your campaigns, these are very specific and could be the source of your additional followers, buyers and traffic in general.

Great work on getting sales through your Instagram account - that's a really positive start!

I would actually spend more time focusing on Instagram than on keywords etc. You've got 4k followers, you've proved you can get sales through that. Now there are two things to focus on:

    (1) Increasing your Instagram following so you have more potential fans to follow to your store.
    (2) Increase the ratio of Instagram fans who actually bother to go to your store.

The first is all about steady, organic growth. Post regularly, make sure your posts are really high quality, engage with your current fans as much as possible. You'll be sure to grow to the 10s of thousands in the next year. I've written a whole post on my personal approach to Instagram here (disclaimer: I'm part of the SocialGrow team!).

The second is all about exactly what you are posting. Gary Vaynerchuk hits the nail on the head when he talks about throwing a lot of left jabs before you throw the right hook. Don't over-post with links to your site - too many sales posts will just annoy fans. Provide great content and only reference the fact that people can buy items from your site at the end of each post. THEN, every now and then come up with a new and interesting post related to sales - this might be a themed post (e.g Christmas) with an accompanying offer, it might be a competition to win some free goods if they sign up to a mail list (subsequently great for email campaigns), it might be that you've given a free item to a fan and and posted a photo of her wearing it. I usually do a post like this every 4 - 5 days, if possible.

Good luck with your page and keep us updated! Feel free to message if you have any questions

Honestly I never post my link in my instagram posts. I have a couple times for a new product release but all of my posts are on point and gain lots of interest! I interact with dozens of fans everyday by liking and commenting on their photos. On the other hand, my competitors have such a big fan base already, but every one of their posts have to do with promoting their product and link in some way...

Use spyfu tool and search your competitors ranking keywords and the sites they link from.

Build your reputation. Aside from IG, you should also have a FB page and post your products and customers testimonials.

Congratulations on getting your first sales!

Since Instagram seems to be working for you, I recommend sticking with them. SEO keywords are just what people search for. Just make sure you have products categorized in a logical and easy-to-navigate way.

Start reaching out to influencers. Look for fashion instagrams who live in Florida. Find as many accounts as you can. Note their followers and how many likes and comments they got on their last 5 posts. Now divide the average number of likes + comments to get the engagement rate. If it's above 3%, contact them and ask for a 24 hour shoutout.

Some will do it if you send them a free product (that's lucky!! take it!), others will do it for the free product AND a fee - thats the standard.

    Good luck

Thanks for reaching out. Iv actually contacted over a dozen models in Florida, and most if not all have told me they are willing to do a photoshoot with my product(s) that I send them for free and they will post it and make sure to tag me. Most of these models have over 10,15K followers too. So I'm hoping this method works for me too.
