Where's my backlinks?

I tried Angela's WSO recently, where you write an article and use her backlinks to get it ranked highly in Google.

I have done about 30 to 40 links so far and I started doing these in June, so most of the links have been in place for a reasonable amount of time. However, when I have tried a few of the various methods of checking for backlinks to the article, it says there are no links.

I have read a few posts regarding links on this forum and some mention about either pinging the Profile URL for each site, or manually indexing them. Is it neccessary to do this? I was under the impression that they would be indexed automatically once they were in place. This was my first project, so I'm learning as I'm going.

My article was on page 3 for a few days, then it disappeared and has been nowhere to be seen since. I have checked the URL in Rank Tracker and it is saying it is not in the top 100.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Be patient. This may not be what you want to hear but it is required. The truth of the matter is that many of those backlinks may never show up but stay diligent in your backlink pursuit and it will pay off in the end.

I would for sure ping them. Sometimes the spiders just dont pick them up for a long time , depends on how deep the page is. Also the owner of the site might have taken some off , specially if they started getting slammed from everyone buying that packet

Would you say to ping them, or manually index them?

I'm showing my lack of experience here, but I thought pinging was only for blogs to let the directories know that you have added fresh content. If I'd have known about this, I could have pinged/indexed them when I was doing them - by having another window open and just pasting the URL in as I was doing them. Now I will have to re-visit the sites and do this. Never mind, it is all part of the learning curve!!!

You are right about some sites not liking this metod, I had one reject the links straight away and a message came up saying they were going to report me to my ISP. This was a bit of a scary moment as it was my first project!
