Just curious on peoples opinions whether you think the Google keyword planner tool is more than enough to serve our purposes. I know there has been many very expensive tools available to use.
Your thoughts?
Thanks

Google tightened up on the free keyword tool, only a matter of time before that carries over to the Adwords API used by all the 3rd party apps If it hasn't already been done.

    • What do you mean by "tightened up"? Does this mean its a more even playing field or does it mean you have to pay to play?

I meant Google charging money for access to the keyword/data. Most 3rd party software will use Google Adwords API.

Here's an older FAQ from the Adwords API:

        [source]
Why is the AdWords API being offered for free?

We were charging a small fee for AdWords API usage to encourage developers to create applications that interact with the AdWords platform in an efficient and responsible manner. In 2010 we launched the preferred pricing program that offered free AdWords API units to eligible agencies and developers of search engine marketing (SEM) tools. We got positive feedback from this program and we now want to extend free usage to all developers to encourage innovation.
As you can see Google once charged money for that API data which was used by 3rd party keyword tools. Charging a fee for that keyword data could easily happen again considering that's the route Adwords is now going on their own keyword planner.

Google is in the middle of a shakeup to try and streamline products and make them generate money.

Google Adwords is enough to search for specific keywords related to the niche of your website & to check which keyword is less competitive & which is of high competition. It is the finest tool to sort out the keywords as per your targeted audience & location.

The Google Keyword Planner is good enough if you're spending a substantial sum of money regularly on Ads. Else, your account will soon begin to show search volumes in ranges, e.g. 10-1000 which is quite useless for determining how popular a keyword is.

Given this context, I think paid keyword research tools are going to be more important.

Paid keyword tools are still worth it in terms of gathering data that you will be using in keyword research analysis which means its only a guide not a basis its still up to you to create an effective target keyword to reach the users.

Don't most PAID keyword tools pull from Google anyway? it's just a matter of separate programming that helps you select niches and maybe have a separate tool that helps you pick keywords related to a main keyword?

Most paid sites that I have used pulled from Google anyway. Which I found weird. But then I noticed many of the other stats like monetize potential, back-links, website competition, split tests, and various other categories and algorithms that are just genius.

Too me, The google planner is great for free sites or people just starting out. You can scale a keyword or 2 slowly and learn how to rise in the SERP's. Then you can see how it may fluctuate based on competition, google updates, etc.

That's why I would suggest putting together a site that your passionate about. Have a business model where you want to supply people with a need that already exists, or a need that customers are yet to be aware of but will want when they see your product or service. Put that together and then worry about keywords, optimization, and all that other stuff later. Most likely by putting together a site like that, you will rise in the search engines without even trying because the content will be unique etc. Then you can utilize the keyword tool on google for free to optimize your site. You just enter in your site url after your site is complete and the planner will pick out the keywords and volume searches where you can later utilize the paid or free keyword tools to increase your page views.

For example, your passionate about cars. You design a page about engines. People are familiar about a certain engine that is showcased on your page that is cheap and can be swapped out for another engine that was not originally designed for a particular make of a car. In addition, you might showcase an engine that people were not aware of but supplied a need to what the potential customer was searching for. This is the kind of targeted traffic that paid keyword tools help you to optimize and create ideas for you to showcase your expertise.
