Aaron Wall's Rank Checker Tool-Why the Discrepancy in Ranking?

Warriors,

I just started using Aaron Wall's Rank Checker Tool, I have to say, I really love it. It's free, for those of you who don't have it and are interested.

However, there is one thing I don't understand about it. When I run the tool, it tells me my site is #20 for a certain keyword, but my site is actually #15 for this keyword when I look for it in the rankings.

Why is there a discrepancy? (By the way, it did say yesterday I was #26, but I was actually also #15 yesterday too.)

    Hi Jason,

Google's search results are now personalized based on georaphic location and past user behavior. So you may be position #15 for one user while simutaneously position #26 for another. There is no such thing as a single position for all users any longer.

I have been wondering this same thing. I realize this thread is older but you can also now download the Google search bar with the "de-personalized" location. How can this be utilized with the rank checker? I always enjoyed this tool but I see the huge difference now when working on a national site. any advice?
