Question about pinging backlinks

A couple of days ago I was asking whether or not any more action was required after putting backlinks onto various sites (as in Angela's WSO), because I have done approximately 30 to 40 and when I check my article URL using Backlink Watch or Yahoo Site Explorer, they are saying that there are no backlinks.

It was recommended that I ping my profile page for each site in order for Google to index them.

I appologise if this is a dumb question, but what I'd like to know is: Exactly which page on the site would be the one to ping. Is it the page where you create your profile that you put your anchor text links in, or is it the page wher you can view your profile after you have put the links and other information in? In other words, does Google need to see the HTML version, or the link displaying your keyword after you have done it, or doesn't it matter either way?

If it needs to be the one that actually displays the link, this could be a problem on a few sites, because the only way to view yor link on some of them is by going to the forum and posting a thread.

    • You need to ping the actual page with the backlinks on, and it is probably worth social bookmarking the page as well.

      I also try to leave a comment in the forums of such sites as there is then a link for spiders to follow back to my profile.

      However, my best piece of advice would be to leave such packets alone. Let me know how you get on

    Do yo mean the page the page displaying the "live" links, not the bio box where yo put the links in? As I said, if this is the case, then it might not be possible to ping all of the links because not all sites allow you to view your profile as others will see it, only when you make a post on their forum.

    It appears that there is a lot more to using this strategy successfully than just putting the links in. If you have to ping them all and post comments on the forums, then when you are doing 100+ links it can be very time consuming.

    I also read a previous thread on this subject where someone recommended that you try and actively participate on the site, instead of just registering and leaving your links on it. I can't imagine that I would have enough spare time to do that!

    • Yes, ping the page that shows "live", not the one you enter your info into (I often log out and then visit my profile page and ping it to make sure I'm pinging the right page).
      I don't bother to participate in the forums unless it is something I'm really interested in anyway...
