Hi guys!

So my question is that will i get ranked above authority websites that has a generic main topic but a niche article, when my website is purely on that one niche?

Say for instance lifehack has a article about how to make a toaster and my entire website is purely about making toasters.

If someone searches for a generic, "how to make toasters" will they get my or their website?

If you have much better content and more/better backlinks, you can outrank anyone.

      Content quality, no.

      Followed backlinks, yes.

The quality of content isn't ranking a page. You can take the best content for people and mix the words up so it's gibberish (still relevant). The page will rank the same because the on-page text is the same, just loading words on the page in a random order. Again, still the same text.

OP, when it comes to SEO there's different scenarios for competition.

What you're describing is an authority site (lifehack). It might not be an authority site on toasters (example) but it's still an authority regardless and easy to prove with the massive followed backlink profile. Odds are you would have a difficult time outranking them (lifehack) but it's not impossible. You have to weigh risk/reward. Is it worth your time trying to outrank the competition for the return ($$)?

Also consider, does 2nd place on the SERPs return traffic? You need to be realistic when sizing up competition. Each keyword has unique competition. It could also be that lifehack (example) has one weak page ranked because nobody else cares about the keyword. Hard to say without knowing the real keyword and doing SERP competition research.

I would disagree here, Content really plays a good role in rankings though content alone cant rank you on page 1 but still it really plays a very crucial role and I have experienced that.

I once hooked up with a local writer and gave him order of around 30k words which was delivered quickly and silly me didnt checked the quality or uniqueness of the article. Result out of 30 keywords I was targeting only 5 where on top 100. Later I hired a writer from upwork order content for same keyword, this time I payed more attention and results all the keywords are ranking and many are in page 1 also.

So you cant just put up anything and rank. No sorry that didn't worked for me atleast

Nope, text is text, doesn't change anything.

This text below would still rank, assuming the page was already capable of ranking in the first place.

1 100. 30 30k 5 a all alone also. and anything are around article. at least attention but cant checked content Content crucial delivered didn't didn't disagree experienced for from gave good have here, him hired hooked I in it just keyword, keywords Later local many me more No of on once only or order out page payed plays put quality quickly rank rank. ranking rankings really Result results role same silly So sorry still targeting that that. the this though time top uniqueness up upwork very was where which with words worked would writer you

I'm not suggesting a site full of gibberish considering bounce rate would be 100%. My point is, it's still text, still ranks.

Long content is king when it comes to hardcore sales copy.
I found that a minimum of 7 minute reading time is prime for increased sales. (obviously it depends on your product)

If you do start getting a good amount of traffic, you'll want your landing page to be optimized for conversions too.

            For SEO reasons. Yukons right.

Also just make it a habit to look at top websites when looking for information. Apple.com is a good start.

            iPhone. This is 7.

            4 words.

            Learn more Buy

            Airpods

            Wireless. Effortless. Magical.

            Learn more

            Not much content at all.

If you're right about long form copy, i would consult for Apple ..they'll instantly hire you.

We will always disagree on this. We have numerous sites where all we did was create more comprehensive, long form content and that page rose from page 2,3,4 to the top three on page one. We did not create a single new backlink. I suppose there could be unknown forces out there that coincidentally caused this phenomenon to occur on numerous occasions but we'll go with the extremely strong correlations we have witnessed and take the leap of faith that it had something to do with the major upgrade to the content.

Surely you would agree that a page with a few paragraphs of content is going to rank better than a blank page if both pages have the same exact backlinks.

The quality of your content, backlinks and site plays a big role on your ranking and not how close you are to the niche.

Your site may just be about toasters mainly and a news site that is only have one page news about toaster will dominate or rank above you.
