    Hey,

I would like to clarify all your concepts regarding blog commenting.

    1. Yes, blog commenting is effective for creating back-links.
    2. If you have commented on the relevant blogs then the owner of the blog will keep your comment for long time. Otherwise for irrelevant blog commenting admin will delete your comment and your backlink will automatically removed or deleted.

Yes Blog Commenting is effective from discussion or spreading brand awareness point of view. As most of the blog commenting links are no-follow, hence it makes no effect in ranking. Of course, if we talk about backlinks time then the comment will be there in blogs until and unless the blog being deleted or the comment is irrelevant.

Writing a blog comment is a great way to advertise your cause or organization by featuring web addresses that venture back to a specific site or blog. Blog comments are a reaction to a blog post, so it should be your opinion to what youve read. And would also add that a good hosting where you host your blogs play an important part for this, and I can say that hostwinds is a good option. I like them.

An occasional blog comment link is part of a well rounded link profile but it should not be the main link building method.

No, not effective. Unless you get the link from a page that has backlinks and your link is the only outgoing link (or one of very few, if the backlinks to the page where you're leaving the comment are many and good).

Assuming you get one that doesn't get rel="nofollow", you do get a tiny benefit. But it's like getting to $1,000 by counting pennies. (You get there faster if you're dealing with $100 bills... Kind of works the same.

    Let me explain further.

Let's assume you asked, is doing job A an effective way to make the $1,000 a month I need for my bills? It pays $1/hour.

Well, there are enough hours in a month for you to get paid $1,000 a month. But is it effective?

Shouldn't you be looking for a job that paid more per hour? Say $10?

So, think of your general link from a blog comment as one hour of work at $0.1/hour. It clearly pays something. If you need 2 of them a month, it's worth doing. If you need 4849 a month?

Blog comments are no follow so they wont have direct effect over rankings but they will help you in increasing your brand awareness and I have seen lots of blogs that receives a majority of traffic from blog comments.

Yes Blog comments will really help in long term backlinks, I myself read the comments after reading the blogs.

Blog comments are the crappiest links in the universe. Period. End of story.

You want a debate or something like that for the user, use the facebook comment plugin.

That way, you won't worry about spam or fuddling up your content.

Yes, comments fuddle up your content and are actually frowned upon by google.

If you have adsense, and you allow regular comments with links for all to see, you are breaking their rules.

Here are the rules for blog comments.

    #1. All comments are spam.
#2. In case you think your comment is not spam, refer to Rule #1.

Why are YOU adding spam to your page? If you think the comments will enhance the content, then you either have junk content or...you need to hire the commenters to write your content. Cut out the middle man.

Quite frankly, as I read most of the comments above I can see that a lot of persons are responding just for the sake of posting. Most just read what others say and then regurgitate the information with no proof whatsoever.

    Here's to the OP:

If you want to know if blog comments work, try it on a test site and analyze the results for yourself instead of just listening to others who have no idea what they are taking about.

    Wanna know something?

The is a website ranking #1 in Google for a very competitive keyword in the health and fitness niche beating out wikipedia and webmed and all the other authority websites for a ONE (1) word keyword what gets over 22K exact searches per month.

More than 75% of the links are spammy blog comments. As to how long it will last, I don't know but that just shows that blog comments still works.

    My Experience:

I use blog comments but unlike others I don't go spamming blogs with keywords. For my niches, I use the name of the persona associate with the website and I only comment on related blogs. In fact, when you look at my link profile, the name of the persona will have more than 10% of the links.

This also helps with branding because the name is connected to Google+ as the owner of the brand, on the youtube channel and all the other social media platform.

Most comments are nofollow but they DO help. Don't take my word for it, TEST.

Everyone will tell you this or that but my advise is to TEST, TEST and TEST again. That's the only way you'll know for sure what works.

Or else, it proves that they have almost 25% of the backlinks are quality links and they rank despite the spammy blog comments.

Or else, it proves that they have almost 25% quality links and they work and the blog commenting links do nothing, one way or another.

Or else, it proves that the other sites are not doing a good job.

Or else, it proves the other sites are not targeting this particular keyword.

Those are all conclusions we can draw based on what you stated.

Yes, I tested blog commenting. It did nothing but take up my time.

ROTFLMAO! Sure...you don't believe that fire is hot and will burn you? Just because someone says it's so. Then go for it. After all, why take someone's word for it. For the record, I have never jumped off a 50 foot cliff to know that it will injure me severely. Some of you think you must test that theory.

The rest of your BS "testing," is just nonsense.

I make 10 links on a great page. I do 5,000 blog comments. I twirl a sign on a corner with my domain on it. I put my best url on a piece of paper and put it under my pillow.

Now, my site rockets to Numero Uno! Must have been that sign twirling thingy....no wait! Must have been the blog comments!

Cause and effect reasoning, are sorely lacking here.

I only speak from what I have done and what I have seen. In fact, I have ranked sites with ONLY blog comments. So if my data is flawed, well I'll take my flawed data rankings any day.

That also means 25% of the links aren't spammy blog comments, how do you know those aren't the reason for the rankings? Could be due to a small number of high quality backlinks.

I've tested nofollow links on orphan webpages (pages with no links), in my SEO tests they do NOT result in the linked to webpage being indexed.

It's a really easy SEO test to setup (ran it over a dozen times), create a unique webpage, ONLY link to it with nofollow links. Regularly check if the webpage is indexed. As long as there are no dofollow links and it's not linked from an XML sitemap, Google won't index it.

If nofollow links aren't followed by Google, how are they directly helping a webpage gain SERPs?

To answer the OP, no in general blog comment links aren't particularly helpful in a direct SEO perspective. They can help indirectly, if you are actually participating on the blogs and people see the links and click them, that's traffic and you never know one of them might add a dofollow link from their site (that's direct SEO benefit).

The same is true for links added on this forum, they are all nofollow, but you might read my comment above and think he knows what he's talking about and go check out my sig links, like what you see and link to my site (I won't hold my breath waiting though :-)).

    Yes,
Blog commenting is effective for creating backlinks to your sites.

If you have commented on the blogs, then if that blog is relevant, then that will more useful, and the owner keeps it for a long time, but the most important fact is that that backlink should be Do-Follow, if Backlink is No-Follow that that backlink should be from high authority sites Otherwise it's not worth

Also, if your comment deletes then your backlink will automatically remove.

    Thank you,

Blog commenting is probably the easiest way to get backlinks. But I don't think you should depend on getting effective ones this way.

Link on blog comments are usually nofollow. So no rank influence will be given. You won't get much human visitors either because rarely do people click on links on comment boxes.

And worst is when that page has already got a ton of comments which most are just spam. Google dislike those pages, including the links on it.

Blog and forum comments containing links are almost universally rel="nofollow" meaning you'll get no value from an SEO point of view.
As far as I know a nofollow link will not give any link value.
I believe there is indeed talk of Google factoring in nofollow links from reputable sources (Wikipedia for example) however
I'm almost certain that blog comments won't be included within this.

I still use blog commenting as one of the SEO activities I do, it is great in sharing valuable content to audiences of a specific blog if your post gets to be approved first by the blogger. And in this scenario, you must make sure that you are adding useful and valuable content, if you are just going to spam then Google might see this as an illegal activity and your backlinks might no longer be valid.

You still can get traffic to your blog because of blog commenting, for example, you are a dentist and your website is new, then a great way to introduce yourself is to share your knowledge in dental blogs which in turn let the readers know that you are capable of the subject matter. It's like building your online persona through introducing yourself to the neighborhood.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10927234].message }}
  • If your goal is to be an expert on a topic, then knowing the people who are blogging on your content would be a great idea. And you won't be able to do this by just introducing yourself directly to them, but instead commenting on their posts accordingly and making a positive impact.

    Hey,
Blog Commenting is one of the way of getting Backlinks from the different websites.

Some times its riskful for the SEO Purpose. as the Google continuously change their algorithms about the quality Backilinks, So carefull about that you should not comment on the low quality contents Blog, or spammed website.

Some Bolgger allowed the Comment on their Blogs, and interact with the viewer

through this interaction you may get Backlinks.

through these interactions you may ask some important question to the Expert having great Knowledge about the Fields.

    TIP
    1. Comment Appropriate to the Blogs Content.
    2. Appreciate the Writer
    3 Ask Some Queries
    4. Link your Profile with your Website(If any case author remove your link from the comment through Profile Link you may get backlinks)
    5. Check the Influence rate of particular website (prefer the website having influence rate 50 to 100)

    Hey Richard,

    1. Is blog commenting effective for creating back-links?
    Yes, it is.

    2. Does blog commenting give long time back-links to a website?
This can be a bit dicey. It totally depends on the blogger and their commenting policy, which you should always check.

Leaving comments on popular blogs means you get some quality back-links as well. Dofollow or Nofollow doesn’t matter in this context because you'll get some benefits of having a back-link from that blog.

If the blog is Dofollow, that’s great, but even if it gives Nofollow backlinks, you can't refrain from commenting. There should be a proper balance of Dofollow-Nofollow backlinks or you might receive some kind of penalty from big Google.

    Hope this helps!

I delete just about every blog comment someone makes on one of my sites because they're all BS.

Even a somewhat legitimate one because I know, without a doubt, the commenter is not trying to start a relevant discussion, but is trying to game the system using one of my sites.

Are blog comments good for a back-link? Not if they're on one of my sites.
And purchasing blog commenting is a real waste of money.

Indeed, as discussed above - most of the links from blogs and forums would be wrapped into a nofollow tag automatically, as the websites would like to preventively protect themselves from any possible penalties. Nonetheless, nofollow links still matter: first, they can create a kind of natural 'crowd scene' in your backlink profile, and while they won`t affect your rankings in any way (Google explicitly says they can’t) - you can still get some good traffic from it. The outcome only depends on the time and effort you are ready to spend, as you can really reach the target audience on the relative portals in case you share valuable ideas and opinion.

Surely, you should keep the reasonable balance and put more effort into building high-quality links from authoritative websites, still this can be a good practice too.

Why use blog commenting primarily for SEO? A better approach is see SEO as a side effect of blog commenting. It's so simple I.m not sure why this seems to be a problem to many but participate in the conversation on blogs within your niche. When you share something make sure you share something valuable, e.g a link to your website or whatever.

E.g, use wpslug.com to find blogs within your niche, build relationships with other bloggers audience. Create a valuable piece of content that you can share and that the bloggers and their audience are glad you shared. This way it's hard to go wrong.
