Hi all,

I am going to start a blog. It is under process. I learned we should not use too much h1, h2, h3 ...tags in a post. because it will affect the seo. What about in the case of pages. I want to design a page of my blog with attractive headings and so on. But i am confused with the heading tag to get a gud look, i should have to use more h2 tags to design the page. Will it affect my site's SEO?

    You learned wrong.

How many subtitles does your content require? That's how many h2's you use.

if you are making a WordPress template make H1 tags for post titles. per example
    <H1><a href=""><php get_the_title?></a></H1>

You can only have one H1 tag. You can have as many H2, H3, H4, etc. tags as you want or need to divide your pages or posts into logical segments. There is no such thing as too many H-tags unless you are putting them on your pages for no reason.

You can have as many of any kind of tag as you want.

I agree that one should be more concerned about their site looking like sh*t though. Changing text formatting or colors ever 3 words is just dumb. Yellow text on a while background is awesome though!

Please enumerate exactly what it is that I said that was wrong, why it is wrong and what proof you have that it is wrong. This should be pretty entertaining ...

Nah. You are, on the other hand, wrong in everything YOU said and in your approach to forums.

How can he/she/it/they? He/she/it/they know(s) nothing about nothing.

I'm agreeing with you on this one dave_hermansen.

One H1 tag is all that is necessary. Google looks at this to try to contextualise the page's content and having more than one H1 tag can confuse Google.

For instance, you can have a "How To Boil An Egg" page, title using:

      <h1>How To Boil An Egg</h1>

      with first step as:

      <h1>Go To The Shopping Mall</h1>
<p>Go to the nearest shopping mall and look for high quality eggs with the longest time until expiry. Be sure they're not cracked or warped.</p>

You've effectively put the first step of your content as equivalent value as your content title. This is why it's best to use H2 to wrap step two's heading and style them accordingly.

      TLDR:
Have as many H2,H3,H4 variations as you want. The purpose of a H1 tag is to identify the page's purpose. H2, H3, H4 is for your subheaders (less important, but still identifying a purpose).

Not sure what tehdevloper and j280684 is referring to as wrong in this instance. I welcome them to challenge what I've mentioned.

One h2 tag is enough for SEO value purposes. You don't have to overdo it. Quality and promotion matters the most.

According to the HTML and website structure rule we should follow the rules of using tags in hierarchy. Such as if we are redeveloping a website, then always use H2 for only a one time.Follow H1, H2 ,H3, H4, H5 and so on in format. It will give a quality result to your website.

There should be one H1 tag as it is the main heading of your webpage however there can be multiple H2, H3,.., and H6 tags. Well-designed layouts are preferred by search engines (i.e. good for the SEO). You can use as many H2 tags as you can as long as it doesn't change the hierarchy of your document (web page).

AS long as you use H tags in the right way then you shouldn't have to worry about the number. However, it is best to only have H1 tag and then follow with H2... H3 and so on. I typically only use H1 and H2 tags. It makes an article easy to read and allows readers to find what they want quickly. I hope this helps. Good luck with your new website.

You can use different tags in different portions there is no such restriction so just go for it but keep in mind the semantics

  • I think not more than 2 h2 tags are required in the on-page. Even one would be sufficient.
If you have to use more tags then go with h4 tags. H2 tags are for sub-headlines and subtitles.

You are right, Header tags play a big role to SEO point of view. You should use H1, H2, H3 tags according search engines acceptance. On page single H1 tag, 2-3 H2 and 3-4 H3 tags is best practice.

Congratulations on your upcoming site! Using H2, H3 and H4 tags is a great way to divide your post into segments, which in turn helps you add clarity to your posts.
