Organic Traffic Dropped But Ranking Improved

I have checked my site traffic analytic reports, where I found the organic traffic has dropped this month compared to last month, but the targeted keywords have shown good improvement.

There's no warning from webmaster tools, I haven't changed anything on the website. No errors so far.

Can anyone tell me what could be the reason?

As a rule, Google needs time to react on rankings. When you submitted your site for indexing? Or where did you build your backlinks? Not only traffic matters..

The reason is that your website outranks your other competitors in the page results. However, traffic is not a basis for rankings. Top ranking doesn't it will give tons of traffic but otherwise your below competitor sites will have.

You (and the rest here) cannot be human:

So you now rank better for "ABC."

But more people are now searching for "DEF."

      Or

You improved your ranking for "ABC," but screwed up searches for "DEF."

I have no clue as to where some of you live. Mars?

Traffic does not equal rankings, nor does it help....just because.

Google does indeed rank popular sites, well, cuz they're popular. They have to.

But if you suddenly increased your traffic, google could care less.

Go spin it in an auto-surf to check that....

Now if you want traffic, and lots of it, to actually pump up your rankings, here's the skinny.

Go build a website that gobs of people will love and use.

Advertise like an animal. Spend millions on a Super Bowl ad.

I guarantee, your site will be ranking because now it's popular.

Concerning rank improvement, it is advised to check ranks in the external browser with cache and cookies cleared, being logged out from your account.
The reason is that Google is trying to perform better and offer SERP that are tailored to your clicks. So if you normally click on your own urls you will see it rise in your browser.

I am aware about that. So I always check ranking in private browser (incognito) at times I use proxy site to get the rankings.

Your Competitors are getting the traffic, when visitors satisfied with 1st website then he not click on 2nd website, this is the reason. before reaching your site visitors quite the search because he already get his expected info from upper site's.

If that's the case why everyone wants their site on 1st position? I don't agree with your reply. Out of 10 visitors maybe one or two wont click but rest 8 of them surely will click the first positioned website. And obviously if your site ranks in 1st position and you have informative content, visitors will keep on coming to your site. This is how returning visitors increases.

Quite impressive answer. But most of clients or workers don't understand this thing. If visitors satisfy with a website then there's no reason to click another website. This is natural. Sometimes we have better rank but less traffic.

Firstly, check if the traffic changes are related to the exact same keywords that the rankings have improved for. In your GA you should also see the distribution of traffic among different sources, check if any particular has dropped (organic, paid or referral), the issue may simply be with one of the sources.

Secondly, try analyzing the bounce rate and check the ranking pages closely. Check which exact pages are ranking for the winning keywords and make sure their content is indeed answering the search queries, and the titles and meta descriptions displayed in SERPs look appealing and relevant.

If Google analytic is showing less organic traffic this month as compared to the previous month, but the ranking position of the keywords have improved, then there is no such issue that you will get any warning message or notification from Google webmaster tools.
Google needs time to react on ranking, as it has not yet updated Google analytics to give real-time traffic data. Also, if your site has just reached on good ranking positions, but the competitors site is already ranking well in Google and your site is not popular as compared to them, then despite having good ranking positions; the audience will prefer other sites.
If your site has good ranking in Google, then having the analytic data of less organic traffic is not a long-term issue. Your analytic data will be updated and you will see improved organic traffic soon in Google analytic.

The reason your keywords are getting high rank is that they are being searched highly in your website, but at the same instant the traffic is getting decline because the viewers are not getting the exact result for which they are searching. You need to keep your website updated with genuine ads so that it can help the people to get the result of their searched query instantly.

SERP with a logged in Google account is different to a SERP with non-login Google account. Google has its tech to make your SERP relevant to your browsing and searching history. Try to log out first, or use another different web browser to see your site's rank on SERP with a given keyword.
