Local SEO Question

Hello, new to Local SEO. Do Local listings provide the most popular results or the actual store locations that are closest to your given location at a time of search. If only the closest results show up in the Top 3-5 Local Results, than what is the point of trying to Optimize a website if it won't show up the same for someone in a different location?

    Not every search result has local listings.

    It depends on what you are targeting whether or not you need to worry about it.

    It's not all based on distance Apple Maps is but Google My Business is not that is just one of the ranking factors, I have tons of business owners much farther away than competition ranking in the #1 slot and as far as someone in a different location typically it's a 20 mile ranking bubble and you must keep in mind that also depending on keyword a lot of people in other areas will type city name behind or in front of the keyword so thus if your GMB page is correctly optimized you will show up even in other states for those types of keywords.
