Question about PA and DA

Here http://i.imgur.com/QJIE7jc.png you can see results 4, 5 and 6 for "prestashop hosting" with the MozBar in Chrome turned on.

For PA, links and DA result #4 is lower than 5 and 6.

Would appear that these factors from MozBar are not always such a proof of a site's expected ranking. Unless I'm missing something...

  • Of course they are not always accurate. In fact, they are often inaccurate. Moz has nowhere close to the data that Google has to accurately judge websites.

    They are little more than a reference. I would not make any decisions based on DA or PA alone, ever.

  • So how does one compare the competition? For example, if I want to decide to target "opencart hosting" or "prestashop hosting", how do I choose?

    I see that prestashop has twice the monthly searches, but for other choices of mine, the two keyword options have equal monthly searches and both are attractive to me. I thus want to determine which has more competition. If that's possible...
  • DA and PA are NOT metrics that are used by Google in the ranking of sites, so why would you expect what you are seeing?

    • Well, the first result in Google for "determine keyword competition" is Brian Dean's site and his page there says the first thing to check is PA and DA. But on further reading, he also says those are just one metric, and there are others.

      I am a bit new to this, so it takes time to learn. Thanks for the clarifications above.

  • PA describes the probability that a specific page from your site will be found on the search engine. Higher PA means greater chance of your page showing up on the search engines.

    DA is very important for a website because it helps new pages of content (including blog posts) get indexed more quickly and have a better chance of ranking prominently in the search results.

  • MOZ is pretty inacurate and late when it comes to updating metrics. Ahrefs is much better than that.

  • There are many factors that determine ranking on the search engines, as I understand it there are 35 important elements in the content, onpage offpage, and domain name, or to understand more fully you need to analyze those sites by Ahrefs and Majestic
