Question about PA and DA

Here http://i.imgur.com/QJIE7jc.png you can see results 4, 5 and 6 for "prestashop hosting" with the MozBar in Chrome turned on.

For PA, links and DA result #4 is lower than 5 and 6.

Would appear that these factors from MozBar are not always such a proof of a site's expected ranking. Unless I'm missing something...

Of course they are not always accurate. In fact, they are often inaccurate. Moz has nowhere close to the data that Google has to accurately judge websites.

They are little more than a reference. I would not make any decisions based on DA or PA alone, ever.

So how does one compare the competition? For example, if I want to decide to target "opencart hosting" or "prestashop hosting", how do I choose?

I see that prestashop has twice the monthly searches, but for other choices of mine, the two keyword options have equal monthly searches and both are attractive to me. I thus want to determine which has more competition. If that's possible...

DA and PA are NOT metrics that are used by Google in the ranking of sites, so why would you expect what you are seeing?

Well, the first result in Google for "determine keyword competition" is Brian Dean's site and his page there says the first thing to check is PA and DA. But on further reading, he also says those are just one metric, and there are others.

I am a bit new to this, so it takes time to learn. Thanks for the clarifications above.

You might just check the actual 'Competition' metric for the keywords to see how dense it is (in AdWords Keyword Planner or any other tool). You can also use a tool like RankTracker to check Keyword Difficulty - this will give an overview of the top competitors for your phrases (in a specific location you`re going to target), and will help you analyze how much effort you`ll have to put in to beat that competition, based on competitors` metrics.

What`s for PA/DA - don`t forget it`s a relative metric, and in fact it shows how a site compares to sites with DA 100, and NOT to its actual competitors; it`s not used as a ranking signal by any of the SEs, so there`s no real correlation with the rankings you should rely on.

The competition in the Keyword Planner has nothing to do with how difficult a keyword is to rank.

Can`t argue with that, but I was actually referring to AdWords in case OP would like to check the specific AdWords` Competition metric; and also mentioned that it would rather be reasonable to analyze the organic competitors (keyword difficulty) to evaluate the competition as in 'how hard is a keyword to rank for'.

PA describes the probability that a specific page from your site will be found on the search engine. Higher PA means greater chance of your page showing up on the search engines.

DA is very important for a website because it helps new pages of content (including blog posts) get indexed more quickly and have a better chance of ranking prominently in the search results.

Care to explain WTF that uninformative piece of dribble has to do with the question of this thread?

(it never takes long for the idiotic loons to appear in thread about DA)

Your name is SEO Ninja?? Really??

I hope you don't sell SEO, and if you do, please tell me where you get your clients from. I would love to show them your post and how stupid it is.

How in the hell are DA and PA the most important points of a website and how does it correlate to website traffic?

MOZ is pretty inacurate and late when it comes to updating metrics. Ahrefs is much better than that.

There are many factors that determine ranking on the search engines, as I understand it there are 35 important elements in the content, onpage offpage, and domain name, or to understand more fully you need to analyze those sites by Ahrefs and Majestic
