Over Optimising For A Keyword

I recently had two sites appear to get a google slap. One ranked well for a couple of semi competitive keywords that brought in a lot of traffic. Another ranked well two keywords, not so competitive, but still decent traffic. Both sites disappeared for those keywords recently.

I think it was for over optimising external links i.e. too many links with this anchor text.

The sites are still getting traffic but don't rank anywhere for those keywords. It appears they have been dampened.

I want to get one of the sites back. Is it possible to bring it back from this sort of penalty or am I just best setting up on a new domain.

Some times it can just be a blip , ive had sites jump out of serps completely for up to 3 weeks and all of a sudden they are back.

Remember that google looks out for un-natural activity , so masses of links can affect your site short term, just think though that if you all of a sudden stop doing what you were doing then it will look even more un-natural , I personally would still be building them links and slowly decrease to a normal rate over a period of time . Just so it looks like a gradual decrease.

Of course if you have been buying links it could be a punishment of which ive had a site killed to 120th in serps for 12 months. The after 12 months it jumped back to the exact position it was previously.

Remember also that building links from non related niche's isnt a good idea

I would say keep backlinking from relevant sites and be consistent. Be a little patient and then see what happens.
