Decimating your SEO by using javascript frameworks

A startup that I was previously consulting with recently made a very ridiculously stupid move. The website is a repository of individualized and PERSONAL content (think event reviews) and each review had its own url like so.

www.startupdomain.io/<event>/<commentid>

Apparently at some point in the past 18months they decided to move 100% to a single page app powered by angular and their urls now look like this.

www.startupdomain.io#<event>/<commentid>

When I left them google indexed at least 300,000 pages in their site, now google just indexes literally - thirteen.

Which is completely ridiculous. They have so much traffic inbound. Googling the name of any events they hosted used to bring them up, now they are nowhere in page 1.

  • Give them time to notice the loss, then offer to fix it for a nice price + a stupidity fee of 20%. (You might have to not call it stupidity fee.)
