If I create new pages on my website and link to a product I want to improve in the search results, does creating internal links pointing to that product help?

Will rankings improve? Is an internal link considered a backlink? If so does keyword anchor text also help?

Is the product page a page on your actual website?

If yes, then internal linking can definitely help. Make sure to link from a page that is already ranking high for a similar keyword to the one you are targeting on your product page.

I think that anchor text will help here as well; use your product page's keyword as the anchor text. Not sure about this part, though.

Links from pages on the same site can help. Depends on how you link. Google (or search this forum, especially Yukon's posts on the subject) silo structure for SEO.

Hi Tolson, if your product listing is on a product page that is on your website and say you link to the home page from the product listing and from the homepage back to the product listing then yes it will pass link juice.

I believe its the site structure that Google gives you a plus point for. It shows the search engines that everything within your site is relevant.

So for example, the stuff that makes links good that are pointing to your homepage will pass over a little to your products if you link to them from the homepage and vise versa.

    Hope that helps

no internal linking does not count as a backlink it count as an internal linking. and it's also helpful to pass link juice to several pages from one to another where you can cross link.

I don't think so internal linking is effected on keywords ranking. So if you want rank your keywords you should know about the back links because back links is most important.

Only the links from other websites are considered as backlinks, so this doesn`t apply to links from page to page within the same domain.

Still, this doesn`t make internal linking any less important: the internal links are crucial in terms of SEO as they make up your website structure; they help indexation, as SE bots follow the links on your pages while crawling your site; they can improve the time on site, as relevant and appealing internal links may encourage a user to go further through your website (think 'related products' or 'users also buy' links).

They can help you spread the link juice across your website or route it to the most important pages; so yes, it can totally help if you back up the important product pages with the internal links from other relevant pages and use the keywords you target in anchors.

This internal linking strategy definitely works with website with a large number of pages. You can get link juice even if you link from your own website.

However if your website does not have large number of pages, this strategy of internal linking may not work that well. Also too much internal linking is not good either.

No!!! the internal link of your website are not considered as back-links. Try to drop your link in a domain other than your website.

Yes internal links can help but there's different SEO situations you need to consider.

If the SERP is low competition you can sometimes pull off ranking for a keyword from simply having good site structure (ex: SEO silos).

If the SERP competition is tough you can piggyback off of internal links that already have their own established followed backlink profile from other domain/pages. Again, SEO Silos can help here.

Yes keyword anchor text helps but it helps more coming from a relevant page where the entire page is focused on the same subject.
