Amazingly talented Youtuber with awful traffic. I couldn't get through to him. How do I explain it?

Ok, so I recently became a fan of the Youtuber "Triforcefilms" (no link here because I don't want people to think I am just trying to get him traffic) and I couldn't BELIEVE how bad his traffic was. I decided to try to help him and the conversations went way way worse than I was picturing. I want feedback on how to help him so I can show him this link. He is way too good at what he does to not have much traffic.

Me: You could have way more views. Your description pages need to be more SEO oriented and then you will get more natural traffic. Your content is amazing. Fellow Youtuber.

Him: Seo?

Me: search engine optimization

Him: We talking about youtube or facebook?

Me: The description for each video carries a lot of weight. Youtube.
It will help with both youtube searches and google searches as well
My channel is small, but I experimented a bit with it. Truepokerdealer

Him: And you think there is something we are missing from our descriptions?

Me: Your video descriptions are targeting your products and social media - not the content of the video itself (a little yes, but not as much as they could)

Him: For example?

Me: Well this stuff gets more complicated than I know the answers to, but for example. You have a video with the following description:
[Published on Feb 25, 2017
A Cappella cover of the opening theme song to Angry Beavers

Me: It barely talks about angry beavers at all
I would recommend really really researching this because you have so much valuable content, but if you threw a story in there about watching it when you were a kid or something that intelligently included the researched keywords, you would get more traffic
Like if you had been doing this for all your videos, you would have gotten a lot more natural search traffic to maybe 20-40% of them (that's a guess)
I'm not saying 20-40% more traffic. I'm saying 20-40% of your videos would get waaaaay more traffic
Because they would start popping up on google and youtube searches all over the place
I did online poker advertising in the US when it was legal in 2004-2006 and it led me down a path where I researched all this and learned it pretty well. Now I own a start up that is developing an app - all these concepts are still true today

Him: Extra information like that you enter in your tags
You don't clutter your description with unnecessary information

Me: that's me and it gives me a ton of natural traffic
How to Deal Poker - How to Shuffle Cards
Brought to you by http://truepokerdealer.com. In this video, you will learn how to shuffle a deck of cards like a professional, casino dealer would learn in ...
youtube.com

Him: Keywords for search criteria have their own entry field while uploading

Me: I'm not saying you are wrong, but it's a fact that when I search "big blue theme" on youtube or on google that you should show up on the first page and you don't

Him: Adding extra terms and words to my description won't help that problem

Me: So how do you solve it?

Him: Lol. A solution to being at the top of a generic search on Google or youtube? Nothing
It's a lottery in a saturated Mish mash

Me: Look, I'm just trying to help. You have so much amazing content and whether or not I am explaining it well, I know where you are missing traffic to your content. The last thing I want to do is annoy you though.

Him: I have done two videos a week for over three years, we have toyed with every variation of keywords and information in our description. We've used Facebook advertising of every kind Google advertising and YouTube advertising. There is simply too much content on the internet and any trickle traffic that you receive due to the algorithms and search engine criteria is either because you are totally unique or by total chance

Me: Do you know what one word Google uses to govern their search ratings and orders?

Him: ?
Me: usefulness
their goal in everything is to make useful content appear first for everything
Your descriptions serve your purpose. Not theirs. The links are good, but the content in the descriptions is not useful to anyone

Him: Lol, what are you saying, add the word "usefulness" to the search tags on my videos?

Me: No - make the description more useful to the person who is searching for the video

Him: I'm just being a smart ass.

Me: Your target audience is looking for the songs you play. They don't know that there are acapella versions, but they would be down for a good listen
They want to hear their favorite songs. Make the description more useful for them to find what they want. It's not as much of a crapshoot as you say.
Also get relevant sites and social media linking to your videos
I take no offense to you being a smart ass lol

Him: We add all variations of search terms to our keywords
"Cover" "theme" "intro" "soundtrack"

Me: If you believe that what you are doing is the best you can be doing, then by all means continue doing the same thing.

Him: We enter every variation of the word acapella, enter the name of the show with and without spaces, etc.
The only thing we could do now is starting entering keywords that don't relate to our content and then we'll just get traffic that doesn't want to find us.
your new user audience is not an acapella audience

Me: Your new users are people who don't realize there is amazing acapella for the songs they love

Him: That's why we enter words like cover as well.

Me: Is it working? You have amazing content that has been out for years that has like 7000 views

Him: Dude, there are better channels than me still buried in the over excess of content on youtube

Me: There is no way that smooth mcgrooves should have 1.7 million subscribers and you only have 27k

Him: He was heavily endorsed by large gaming sites for several videos. His fame is due to external traffic and sharing

Me: Wait you are saying you know how he did it and you aren't copying him? Go raise some money on kickstarter if it's that easy!!!
Either way, the lesson here is simple
Every time you say the phrase "I can't" you shut your brain off. Change your phrase to "How can I?" and let your brain find the answer. There are so many ways to increase your traffic. Just go find one.

Him: Kickstarter won't solve this. He was spotted by someone online with big influence. By being published on sites like kotaku, he recieved a massive influx of external traffic
We found a great way to increase traffic, in the most realistic way.

Me: When are you planning on implementing it?

Him: Lol, twice a week for the last 3 years. We went from earning a few hundred subs a month to 2000 subs a month
Exponential growth from consistent quality content and viewer engagement
Without meaning to sound rude, there was literally nothing you can tell me that I have not already tried. It is a lottery

The Ultimate Youtube SEO Guide
Youtube is the second largest search engine. A lot of people are doing SEO for Google - which usually ends up with Bing and Yahoo rankings following suit. What we fail to see is that Youtube SEO can gain you far more search traffic than Yahoo and Bing does. So if you're not...
seo-hacker.com
This site is the first thing that comes up when I search for it and it is saying exactly the same thing as me. The description is all about search engine traffic
You do not sound rude. You sound like a college kid who thinks he knows everything and can't see money that is sitting right in front of his face lol
And you better not take offense to that after being that guy for the last 30 minutes!
scroll down to "video content" and "description"

Him: I'm a 35 year old certified audio engineer with 15 years of professional production, performance and music experience who now works in radio. Hardly a college kid who thinks he knows everything huh?

Me: I know you aren't a college kid. I said you sound like one.

Him: And you sound naive
No offense
We ran our channel for the first year with way more detailed descriptions. Our daily traffic is 10 times what I was back then
*it

Me: Ok let me ask this. Are you planning on giving anything I have said another thought beyond today?

Him: Respectfully, you haven't said anything yet that I didn't know, and haven't tried before.
So unless you know someone at kotaku or Disney that can give me a shout out, I'm afraid we're just gonna keep plugging away, and if we don't win the big "share lottery", we'll continue to earn our way with the steady growth we'll painstakingly cultured.

Me: Then there is no more point in me trying to help. I am not trying to insult you or be right about anything. I am in the business world and I enjoyed your videos. You don't like the way I think and explain concepts. I love your work.

Me: If you change your mind and want to chat more about this stuff, feel free to hit me up any time

Him: Appreciate your efforts:-) YouTube is a complex beast indeed, and a guide to taming her is about as useful as a paper sword. Best of luck friend:-)

Me: Oh have you ever read Rich Dad Poor Dad?

Him: Indeed. 10 years ago.

Me: Good. It's been a while, but you may remember later in that book, the author teaches that learning sales and marketing are an important part in learning about money. They give the example of the most talented author in the world and how no one ever read their content because they were taught to specialize and focus on making content content content and they never mastered sales and marketing
When I first messaged you, you didn't even know what SEO was
That literally blew my mind
All I am saying is to do specific research on SEO
If you feel you already have then by all means change nothing. If you feel there is a chance you could learn more, then embrace it and I promise you that you will see a difference

Him: Well I assure you I've tried it all:-)

Me: But whatever you do, DO NOT try to learn it from me because apparently I can't get through to you at all. OK then if you feel you know it all, hire someone lol

Him: I employed someone like you with a new media and marketing degree for a month or 2.
They were let go when we saw literally 0 change

Me: I would never take money from you to do this. I'm not the right person.
The right person is out there though and the fact that you fired them and didn't find someone new is a problem

Him: You know, you're also guilty of not absorbing anything in this conversation

Me: You sound like my mom lol
Every time I talk about something related to her, she just tries to talk about me instead

Him: I'm literally telling you I've already tried the things you're saying and you're still doggedly faithful to your point, as if it's impossible

Me: You didn't know the term SEO. There's no way you have done due diligence

Him: The finest musician in the world doesn't need to know all the industry music terms dude
You really think me knowing that acronym is crucial to understanding and observing search trends and traffic?

Me: Not knowing SEO for a Youtube star is like an NBA player not knowing the term press conference
Anyway, like I said, hit me up any time if you want.

Him: Though commendable, Your optimism, and keen knowledge of acronyms and basic marketing can't create a youtube star. Only Lots of hard work over a long time can do that. That or a lot of luck. Consider that little nugget from a very experienced long time youtuber.
Gnight

Me: Night and thanks for the wisdom
