Add your site in two places:

1) Google Local Business Center http://www.google.com/local/add/
 Requires Google Account.

2) Qype OR your local yellow page service that Google uses to store information always on the top of Search Engine Result Pages.

  • It's also worth adding your listing in the major local directories. Here in the UK we have a few UK only business directories - after adding to these, my position in local business search rose to the top as well as my organic listings.

    • Bing has a similar thing for local search as well. Can't put my hands on the link this second though :-(
