Search engines are for the entire web community. For all the sites in the world which wanna get found.

And search sections are for the particular site only. You search for terms which belong to that site.

There are search features for websites and there are search engines for the World Wide Web. Both serve different purposes, but are based on the same premise that you're searching for specific information.

When people talk about SEO, it applies to search engines like Google. You're essentially optimizing a website to make it more accessible to searchers.

A proper search engine like Google or Bing indexes content from around the web. It attracts visitors for free who are looking for something anywhere on the Internet. Because of the volume of daily searches search engines run ad networks for advertisers. They make their money from advertisers.

Amazon like Youtube also provide an on site search but can also run contextual ads for advertisers. The main point is that the searches apply to content available only through that portal. In the case of Amazon the content is a vast amount of categorised product information. In the case of Youtube results are always videos presented like Google does in an order it considers most relevant to the search request. As you would expect since Google owns Youtube

  • All the site that have search sections are not search engines, basically they are using plugins of search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing for searching but they are not search engines.

A website search section is to search for a particular thing which is present on that site only.
Search engine is like a giant database that contains information from all over the world and users can search for anything they want like information, videos, images etc.
