Of course it matters. Do you think Google really wants to give a boost to a site selling Teddy Bears because they have a link from a high authority porn site? They would much rather reward you for having a lower DA site that sells coloring books linking to a Teddy Bear site.

Remember, there is no such thing as "Domain Authority". It is an invented metric by MOZ that is their best guess as to what might matter to Google. Google does not use it.

First thing is that there DA is a criteria set by Moz. Yes, definitely website matters for creating quality backlinks, if we are considering DA then we should use DA of 50+ number. Because 50+ comes under good category of website which can also give a good backlinks for website. I don't think so that there is any bad effect of that on websites.

Any backlinks are good for your site. As long as its not from a link farm.

How good? Well, if it relates to your website, then great, even otherwise, you stand to gain only.
