Google Business - Local Maps Algo Change?

Has anyone noticed recent any recent changes in google maps?
I have a client who has at least double the number of citations as any competitor with 10 times the number of organic reviews.
He has been #1 on google maps for his main keywords in his city for years now.
This week he suddenly dropped out of the 3 pack and is ranked 5th and 7th for his 2 main keyword.
A quick check on whitespark shows he still has MANY more citations than anyone else in his market.
I am popping a few more directory submissions up but honestly I have him listed in every free relevant directory he can be listed in.
Also recommendiong he start requesting reviews from his customers to see if we can get a bunch in asap, but as I said he has over 80 google reviews, his competitors who are now ranking higher have fewer than 10.
Anyone else noticing a shakeup recently who might be able to offer advice as to what else I might be able to do to get him back where he belongs?
