Is top level Domain names good from SEO perspective?

Hi,

I was wondering if whether it is worthwhile to buy top level domains like .lawyers, .doctors, .london and so on from SEO's perspective? Although Matt cutts says they do not bother about the domain extensions for SEO, my personal searches do not yield any first page results for these top level domains hence something is amiss here.

Have you guys seen any top level domains appearing on the first page for any keywords?

What's wrong with co.uk or .com domain? Why do you want to buy .lawyers domain?

Because they are more descriptive than ".com" and make no difference for SEO?

If you are not getting the exact names then for alternate names such as if your keyword is 'advertising' then go for 'advertisinghq' or 'a1advertising'.

It doesn't matter. If do SEO correctly then you can get ranked for any domain.

That is a false statement. Many are the kiss of death and have zero chance.

That's funny too...in this thread....as the ones the OP is talking about, have dozens that are DOA.

That is, they are spammed to death.

So, answering the OP's question, many of those domains are garbage.

.science is almost all crapola. The chances of any .science appearing on google, are slim to none.

Many countries have extensions that you don't want to touch either.

        Hi,

That's what i am thinking as well but why does Google still claim they do not consider the domain extensions?

You people are mixing things up.

    You start with the premise;

Extensions don't matter. But then fail on the whole idea.

Extensions don't "matter," if we are talking about normal ones.

But many extensions are spammed, and yes, are not worth the cyberspace they are on as far as google is concerned.

Sure, if you want to market an illegal gambling site that steals ids and resells them, then go for the spammed ones.

If you care about google, you will not use just any extension.

It's like saying go ahead and drink any water. Does not matter what the source is.
Well sure, if we are talking about normal cities and companies that filter and purify it.

But I aint gonna drink outta the toilet.

Choosing a spammed domain is like flushing your site down the toilet.

You should familiarize yourself with this shtuff.

      Hi Paul,

Of course all of us do care about Google. However, is Google so dumb that by just looking at the most spam TLD in the world, it is going to treat a genuine website using that extension as a junk too? No, i don't think so. This is where quality SEO comes in handy to tell Google that NO i am not the one you should ban!

This boils down to our overall discussion that as long as quality seo has been done, even a junk looking extension can stand up as a genuine site.

Yes, google is THAT smart. And anyone that thinks they are not, is just not paying attention.

Perhaps you were not around when they banned each and every .co.cc. Yes, deindexed them all.

        Why? Mass abuse.

Now since just under 100% of all .science websites are abused.....you don't think google knows that?

Google knows what real pages use .science. You can count them on one hand. Do you think your .science will pass? Doubtful.

        Ditto with .tk

They were cheap, and abused to the max.

Why on earth would you want to even try?

Nobody in their right mind (SEO-wise) would EVER get a .tk.

        Makes no sense.

For almost gTLD domains, they're all good choices. However, it depends on what purpose you should buy your domain, building your own business or investment? And depend on who are your target audiences, if someone builds a website for his local customers then ccTLD domains the best choice. However .COM is the best and then .NET, .ORG, .INFO,...For ccTLD, I think those are .IN, .CO, .IO, .ME,...
