Is My Site Penalized On Google?

Hi

I run a small blog in the entertainment niche, it gets around 450 to 500 visitors a day and is growing month after month at a small pace. At the moment, it gets nearly 85% of its traffic from organic search, but almost the whole of it comes from Bing search instead of Google!

I get just around 12 to 13 visitors per day from Google, which I'm sure you would agree is extremely weird. I rank on 'Page 1' for certain high volume keywords on Bing, but for the same keywords my pages aren't even indexed on Google.

This has got me thinking that there has to be something wrong with my site, is there anyway to check if my site has been penalized by Google? I haven't received any messages or alerts in the Google Webmasters Console.

Please do let me know if you have any idea as to why this might be happening.

Regards

If your website has penalized by Google then definitely you can get a alert massage by Google. So, check technical part of SEO, it may be some issues and also submit for re-index those pages which has not index by Google.

No, I don't think that your site has been penalized by Google. It might be some technical reason. Have you checked your robots.txt? are you blocking any files or page on your site from Google?

Also check how many pages of your site is indexed in Google. Use Google Search console to submit sitemap. Try Fetch as Google Tool to see how google crawls your site.

That`s rather normal to have much lower rankings in Google than Bing (it`s easier to rank in Bing). I believe you mean that pages are not ranking for some keywords at all, rather than they are not indexed in Google, right?

Well, in case you believe your website is good and relevant (optimized) for your keywords - the reason could be any. Perosnally I`d start with crawling the website on behalf of Googlebot to check how Google sees it (you can do that in WebsiteAuditor for instance), then would check for any obvious issues like mistaken restrictions from indexing, duplicated versions available (http/s, www) and other major on-page troubles. The further tactic would depend on the outcome.

Nothing weird about it. You're hitting the right SEO points for Bing, you're not doing it for Google.

    There ARE differences.
