SEO for a non-English website

HI all.

I have a website that is mostly in Thai (some English) that I am hoping to rank. I'm not Thai myself and cannot write Thai. I have written a lot of guest blogs for others in the past so I think that would be a good route for me to go down to create back-links for the site.

Is there a problem with back links to a Thai language site on English language guest blogging sites? (and similar). I though of maybe linking to the blog on the site which does have some English language posts and then spreading the juice.

Thanks in advance.

Linking is not bad. It is only when purpose of link is bad. If the Thai blog is great with content and you are linking from relevant content it is fine. If answer is no for any of the above then don't do.

I think there would be a problem but you won't know until you ask.

Personally, I would not accept guest posts with links to blogs in other languages. It would not fit with my target market which is English speaking.

If there is an English version of the blog, that might work but sounds as if the Thai and English are mixed on the site. Why not SEO with other Thai sites - not everything must be done in English.

      You are correct.

But just doing random guest posting is going to help!! NO

You need to get published in high authority pages. That's where it makes the difference.

If your site is in Thai, the sites that link to you should be in the same language (no site in another language is going to want to link to you anyway). And, those are the ONLY kind of links you should be trying to get - ones where other people have to decide that they want to link to you. If you can place the link yourself, 99% of the time it is a worthless link.

Of course - but you won't get authority pages unless your writing, language skills and quality of your linked site complements the authority site.

People say "guest post on authority sites" - and it's not that easy. An authority site is not likely to accept a post from someone linking to a site in a different language. Wouldn't help either site.

I have looked into what the opposition are doing, and the quality of their back-links are generally very poor. Even for the guys in 1st place.

Many of the back links are placed in local directories. Others on websites with poor or no relevance. One had a back link placed on a restaurant's site (I'm in CCTV). Sometimes the link is placed on it's own in a sidebar somewhere. No accompanying text whatsoever, just a naked url on its own. I don't think I recall finding a single back link on what could be considered a quality site.

SEO is not sophisticated in Thailand, at least not for my category. I know that some SEO companies out here place keywords for onsite SEO in white text on a white background. The bar is set pretty low.

I'm by no means looking to emulate what these guys are doing, but it's not nearly as competitive as you may be used to.
