Gday Warriors,

I've just completed some posts on Blogger, Vox, Wordpress & Livejournal.

All these posts are linking back to my main site with the relevant anchor texts.

My question to you is this,

Should I link the web 2.0 properties together creating a link wheel? If so how?

Thanking you in advance, Thomas

Yeah - don't do it. I got an e-mail today from the guy that claims he perfected the link wheel back in February. Appearently, he said that Google is catching on and advised everyone to "mix it up" a little by breaking one of the links in the web 2.0 properties.

My advice is to stay away from it. I have Web 2.0 props pointing to my web page but they aren't interlinking with each other.

      Thanks Big Cat,

I've got several web 2.0 properties pointing to my main site and haven't bothered to link them.

      Luckily I guess.

Link wheels have been around quite a bit longer before that gentleman claimed them

That said, I always thought they were over rated

My feeling is, feel free to do it, but don't do the same pattern on each site

In other words, make it look natural.

Having a link wheel on each site def does not look natural and is akin to wearing a Red Clown suit around town and hoping nobody notices

So, say on one site, do a link wheel, don't finish the loop...then on the next site switch things up as far as which sites link to which

Then on the third maybe have none or just one site linking

Hope that helps...but the main thing is, don't get too hung up on it.

          Thanks Mark,

Looks like a case of common sense wins again. My initial idea was to create a few web 2.0 properties to build a mini-network around my main site using the web 2.0 sites. I think I'll continue to do this without linking the web 2.0 properties.

I've recorded my progress so far and have a site ranking on the 2nd page for a very competitive keyword. So this stuff works. I've stagnated on 2nd page for a while now and wondered whether the link wheel would push me up. I think I'll resort to patience and my strategy for now.

My thoughts exactly, as long as you're not doing too much of any given strategy and making each look as natural as possible, it's not something to worry about. Just diversify your link building strategies, maybe try a link wheel here and there, and you should be good.

Every time I heard about link wheels or saw diagrams of them I couldn't help but think "how could Google not be able to see this". Not that they would necessarily penalize it or anything but their whole goal is to provide relevant content and I can't imagine building an obviously artificial link wheel would really count for much in their eyes.

After all, the whole point of Google's system is that rankings are supposed to be based primarily on how many "votes" (links) a page or website has in order to determine it's credibility, relevance, etc. If all the links are coming from pages that have a huge footprint and were obviously made by you (i.e. all linking to one another and all linking back to your site) why would Google give much importance to these links.

So when building link wheels, I would definitely try to make it look natural and not link all the pages together and all back to your site.

One of the new rages that we are implementing is including Angela / Paul backlinks into the "wheel" and building out own own .com doorway pages for clients that can be included into the wheel.

More and more we are seeing clients ask us to not link in a particular fashion while still building out the web 2.0 properties with extra care to provide the sought after link juice.

The web link wheel app lets you visit a different web link every time you touch the reader with the same tag. After the last link, the first one is used again, etc.
So the first time you touch the reader your web mail inbox might show, next your facebook page, next your intranet homepage... and so on.
The number of different links you put in there is unlimited.

Why close it in the first place? A circle is pretty easy to recognize even for chimps!
