Hello all,

I have been trying to find my htaccess file and I can't find it anywhere, I have checked for the htaccess file in both cpanel and FTP and I have checked for hidden files but it doesn't seem to be there. Could it be somewhere else other than in the root? I have read that when you activate the SEO friendly urls in WordPress that it should automatically create a htaccess file, I have activated the SEO friendly urls but theres no htaccess file so how have they been adjusted without the htaccess file? If I don't have a htaccess file do I need one? will it effect my rankings?

Thanks in advance
P.s my website is www.tgfsecurity.co.uk

Make sure you check "show hidden files" in your cPanel.

You probably don't need one. Stop looking for it and stop worrying about it.

Your .htaccess will always be in the same place as your site, public_whatever 99.999999999999999% of the time.

If it's not there, it's not there. It's not going to be useful for you anywhere else.

You can create one yourself if you so desire.

That's what she said, or he said.
