Renew Domain Every year or Renew for many years

I read in some places that if you renew your domain for more than 3 years it gives you a small boost in SEO.
Google said to not worry about that but didn't denied that might have a small influence, they say that the most important part is having good content and good backlinks.

But in a very competitive environment where everything matters what you think? Should we renew the domain for more than 3 years or not?

The case that people put forward for having this "good practice" is that says to google that you will exist for many more years which mean you will be stable.

I have my doubts, what is your opinion?

I don't really think that it matters. If you get good backlinks and good on-page SEO then you can rank better than anyone.

Older domains with fresh, frequently updated content rank better but whether they are renewed for one year or 3 years doesn't matter. While in theory Google can consider all domain data, including the length of renewal, in reality I think it's not important, and if at all, it's certainly not one of the main ranking factors so yes, there's no need to worry

The number of years in the future that a domain name is registered for has nothing to do with how well you will rank. The number of years a domain name has existed in the past correlates to better rankings in many studies, but only because of the content and links that domain had acquired over the years. Correlation is not the same thing as causation. A domain that was purchased and parked for ten years has no more SEO advantage than a brand new one.

Matt Cutts was asked this and his reply was not to worry about it. Notice that the number of past years is what is being discussed here in terms of a patent Google filed (but he says they are not using), not the number of future years. Why WOULD any search engine give a boost to a domain name that, although it may be registered for future years, may not even have any content on it 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, 1 month, 1 week or even one day from now?
