Hi,
My competition that's ranking for major keywords has 5300 backlinks, coming from 96 referring domains, 4,812 backlinks from that are coming from their own domain. Google sees internal backlinks as ranking factors?

Thank you

Yes, internal links with their own followed authority link profile do rank other internal pages.

    Counting links isn't SEO.

Internal links works well if you done it to right place, Unnecessary linking will degrades you. provide optimum links in one page. Don't do much. If you are a blog than you can give to high DA sites with relevancy.

Yes, the internal linking structure of a site is a very important ranking factor. You should use your targeted keywords as anchor text when linking your internal pages to one another.

Well, internal linking is important to keep the clean and clear site structure, but it mostly helps you steer the power to the pages you find the most suitable for some search queries. Internal links don`t add much authority and proven relevance to the query as backlinks do, though. They won`t really help you rank, but may help you to rank the proper page instead of a wrong one, for instance.

Well this site is ranking for all of the major keywords just by doing internal backlinks. 50K visitors per month. 99% of backlinks are coming from their own domain

I guess they are extremely important by looking at my competition site. From 5300 links, 4,812 is coming from their own domain, and they are ranking for all major keywords.

Yes, internal links "count" in the sense that it helps the page rank that they are pointed to.

I think the simple answer to the question that was actually asked is "no, internal links do not count as backlinks." Backlinks are from other sites.

That said, internal links can help pages of a site rank well when more prominent authority pages of the site pass some of their authority to those pages via a link.

Internal links helps order your site page correctly. But they don't affect SEO rank of your domain. Usually most links are pointed to the main page (Home page). With internal links search engine can find what page is primary and it show it first.
By creating internal links you will not be able to change your site rank, you will be able to change rank of your pages. If you need that, submit your internal ranking to search engine. Check to Site map in webmaster tools.

But why is google counting my competitors internal links, and ranking them for major keywords? They have hundred of internal links pointing to pages with keywords they are ranking on 1st page on google. When i click on these internal links that they are pointing, tells me page can not be found. I'm so confused
