Hello Warriors...

Does Google penalize us if we change the website listed for our Google My Business page to a newer, better website after collecting reviews for a few months with the old site?

  • You changed to a different domain or you changed the website design?

In either case, the answer is no.

I created a new site but I have not changed our Google listing to it yet. The site that I have on there is my old site which has some juice to it. The new site is out there but I have not linked it to the Google My Business page yet...I wanted to see what SEO guys like yourself thought first.

    • You should be fine. You will want to make sure you setup a 301 redirect for each individual page on the old site pointing to the corresponding new page on the new site as well as the change in GMB.

I did this about 6 months ago with my main business site. Moved from one domain to another and the local rankings never budged.
  • No, it shouldn`t. But make sure there`s no confusion with the NAP, and the address in GMB corresponds to your actual business location. Update all the other details respectively, if there are any changes.

  • Should be A-OK Brad. Only because you don't get penalized for changing sites. Happens quite a bit.

  • Well I think Google won't penalized to your another website as that is new but make sure not to use duplicate content (old website content to new website) if you use duplicate content than new website will be punished.
