Hi All,

I am working for a client as an SEO.

I have this issue with my client's Google 3-pack results.

Business is situated in (sub-urb) Aspley, Brisbane (city), Queensland (state) in Australia.

1. using location based google search "google.com.au"
2. keyword used for search dentist Aspley

result (please see screenshot):

Problem : We don't appear in Google 3-pack places, nor in the "more places" link at the bottom.
* we come first in the Organic search for keywords "dentist Aspley"
* if I try to zoom the google map in or out; the results page on the left of screen will refresh does showing the clients details. ( pls. see screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/VQo7gVONmDn8).

Pls. enlighten me on how to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance!

  • This looks quite normal - you are simply ranking for a specific location only. The Local Pack is highly localized, so the results may vary dramatically if you zoom in or out. I`d recommend you to come up with several specific locations (like a city or local neighborhood) and optimize for it, and then track the local rankings for those specific locations to see the realistic results. Some rank-tracking tools now allow to enter a super-specific location like even a street to see the results as they are actually seen from there.

    • I am still confused. In the organic results, we are #1 as shown on the first screenshot. I guess, it should follow that we should also be on the first 3 results of Local Pack. Please correct me if my understanding is incorrect. Thanks!

  • Open an office in Aspley.

Why should you show up for Aspley when you're not in Aspley?

    • Good day!

The clinic is situated in Aspley.
  • Google's local packs depend on the searcher's IP so much that you and your neighbor could literally be getting different results for the same query.

May be this is due to the IP issues....

    • Thanks. I will look into this as well.
  • Hi Meloyt

The local 3-pack in Google is based on location, As they say in the commercial real estate business, the 3 most important factors are:
    1. Location
    2. Location
    3. Location

It's quite simple, you are ranked in order of distance from a specific location.

If a search is for a specific location then that location takes priority in the ranking of the 3-pack.

For searches that include a specific city, or town name, the rank will be based on location from the city center. If you want to rank better the most effective way is to move your business's physical location towards the city center.

Or, you could open a satellite office. The more office locations the greater your odds are coming up tops in the 3 pack for "dentists near me" searches which are rapidly becoming more common than citywide searches.

    HTH,

    Don Burk
