Do we need to really disavow links in 2017? Or Google is ignoring low quality & bad links?

Hi all,

I would like to get some experts and experienced opinions on this. So we see number of backlinks to our website where some to many of them are really anonymous and we don't know whether they are helping or hurting us. But we come to know the estimated spam links by some spam score from Moz. Do we need to disavow such links which fall in orange and red category about how dangerous they are. Really do we need to disavow these links? Google claims that they gonna ignore such links and other way they ask us to disavow any such links we are sure about hurting us. Finally landed in confusing land. How we go about this?

Thanks

If you know that the links are spam and are totally irrelevant for your site. Then you should remove them as soon as possible. Maybe they are no hurting your site right now but they will certainly in the near future.

Definitely hurting the site near and long term, and more than that, deleting the low energy links is like going to the Cyber School of Hard Knocks; this teaches spammers are ignorant bloggers or site owners in direct terms what is allowed and what is not.

You should definitely disavow any links that you do not want associated with your website. Although an algorithm may not penalize you (at least currently), real, human Google manual site reviewers will penalize you.

Think it depends if it's natural backlink noise or a targeted negative seo attack

Including the backlinks we receive for our subdoamins, they will be in thousands everyday...at least in hundreds...how we gonna check culprits out of these?

You do not have to worry about low quality or irrelevant backlinks much, but the ones coming from spamming websites will hurt you.

Spam and low-quality links always hurt. If not now, later they will for sure. Remove the links, you'll be safer this way. As pointed above, manual review still exists and it might get you caught in a less than pleasant situation eventually.

It would be better if you remove or disavow all irrelevant or Spam links from the website profile to avoid manual penalty.

I'd take out the trash and leave the gifts. I do it with junk comments. Depends on if they want to add value to your blog or use your blog to better their cruddy sites. I delete all spam immediately on BFP. Privilege to post there after all the hard work our community put into the site over the past 3 years.
