Question about posting in forums for backlinks

It's an established strategy to find forums in your niche and post there using a signature. What I'm not clear about is whether there's any benefit to posting frequently in the same forum. Put another way, can you continue to get more backlinks from one site beyond the initial process of signing up and posting once? Btw, I'm not talking about spamming forums, but making relevant posts. There is, of course, always a chance you will pick up actual traffic from the forum if you post regularly and it's in your niche, but I'm just wondering about it from the backlink/SEO point of view.

I find posting in forums with backlinks in my signature to be quite effective for link building. If you make relevant posts, it makes everyone happy.

Well the more important way is to link it to a related web page or blog post, this way the chances of the reader coming back to your blog is higher, and at the same time strengthen the web page or blog post too.

I agree with joshua and mejohn.

Just make a quality and informative post with a link back to you're site.

The answer is YES. If Google indexes a keyword from the post and it's got your signature, you can have many many links.

A sig link is a link, but by and large, it is pretty much likely that links of this kind are by and large disregarded and thus have little to no impact on rankings.

Smoky Joe, from everything I've heard, these links do have an impact. Just to use an example, the site I have in my signature here has page rank 4. Maybe not great, but this site has little content, is seldom updated and the title is not a popular keyword, so I can only guess that the rank is related to forum posts. Meanwhile, I have other sites I've done a lot more SEO on, and they rank mostly between 0 and 2. So I think I'll do an experiment and post in other niche forums and see if it can help some of my other sites, actually ones I care more about getting ranked for

Google like back links from forums which are do follow, but also like links from different domains so don't make all your back links from one forum.

if you have a good presence in the forum i mean if you are a regular contributor then it does help you in the longer run, if the forum is good and has good PR's in different pages, you have additional benefits

Ya, If you don't spam the forum, you will get QUALITY backlinks at the same times direct hit from there too. Specially, if the forum is related to your niche, that backlink will be more valuable.
