Help improving low CTR for a local carpet cleaning company

Hi

I manage a site for a local carpet cleaner. http://officeandhomecarpetscleaned.co.uk

The average CTR showing in search console is 0.63. I have been working hard on my post titles and descriptions, regular content and despite all that very few people are clicking through.

For example the KWP "carpet cleaning thirsk" hits the No1 position in google UK and I've got 128 impressions over the last 28 days and 1 click, .08 CTR.

I'm not sure what else I can do, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

So approximately 4 impressions a day.. Keep in mind if someone is using a SERP tracker, those trackers will generate impressions and never click.

If you tracking that keyword in a serp tracker that will account for 28 of those impressions and if someone else is doing it as well, you can see what's happening.

That keyword has like 0 value and you should focus on a more meaningful keyword.

      Hi Topcoder

Thanks for your answer. I never thought of the situation you describe. I have been using the free version of semrush to track a few keywords. I have now requested the account be closed.

When I check my main 5 KWP in the google keyword planner it shows they each get 10-100 searches per month.

I know that does not sound like much but for a local company, I cannot see what else to use.

      Thanks again

The problem is that ranking in the organic search results for a term like that is never going to give you a high CTR. You need to rank in the local search box. That is where all the clicks and calls are going.

      Hi

      Thanks again for your advice.
I will need to do reading up on the local search box. I do have one question though please, if my site shows up in the local search box does that count ass an impression?

      Thanks

Yes it is an impression, not that it matters.

That's the Google page that goes with the website the OP's talking about.

Nobody in their right mind would be searching for carpet cleaning thirsk except you.

The keyword would be carpet cleaning.

Don't you people ever have a business plan? Advertise?

Or do you just think you can be successful because google will give you cicks?

Ever wonder why apple, amazon, ebay, etc. advertise? On television AND google?!?!?!

I pity the fools that are clients. You are doing postings and worrying about that! ROTFLMAO!

And regular content?!?!?!?! You think a real business does that? To stay in business?
To drum up business? Seriously. How many articles could you write about carpet cleaning?

Do you want people to just solve their problems without the business?

You tell people what you can do for them.

What the frick is a thirsk?

Regular content...post titles..descriptions...man you people are clueless about how a real business should work.

And clueless about who they hire.

True. I run several sites. One for my business. One for a relative's business. The others for randoms.

I have added new pages 4 times in the last 3 years on my site, to reflect new products I'm selling.

I/We add a lot of photos all the time on my relative's site: selling clothes. You get new designs/clothes in, you post them. Blogging? Never.

For the others, I make content changes a couple of times a year, or less. Always in response to a change in services/products offered.... Unless they have a sale. If they change the terms of the sale, the site's got to reflect that.

And, people come to the site from SEO, ads on FaceBook, ads in local paper, postcards, and a few other ways. Why not only SEO? Because it's the way to have more sales, of course!

PS Google advertises to all these businesses pretty regularly by postcards. Yup, we get $125 free Adwords money postcards every few months. If Google does it, should you?

Regular content has nothing to do with conversion.

Before you do anything else, look where the traffic is coming from. There are sites that send you lots of bot traffic. Those impressions do not count.

If the impressions you're talking about are from "direct," those would be people who were looking for your site, them not converting is a big deal.

Traffic that comes from searching by keyword not converting is a big deal.

Traffic that comes from referral, that depends who's referring.

If a bakery site in Los Alamos referred someone to your site for cleaning, it should not convert. If a carpet seller in a town in your area referred and conversions are low, you've got a problem.

I looked at your site, I don't like it.

    For many reasons.

One of those you should fix is add a call to action. No, having your numbers in the header is not good enough. Call Highfield today to inquire, not good enough.

Call 0800015773 for a FREE quote (estimate), whatever it is you people use counts. And make it bigger and in different letter colors than the words around.

The reason I don't like your site (well, I only looked at your homepage), it's all about you, there's nothing about me, your prospect.

Basically, the info on your site should match what I'm looking for, feed my ideas back to me.

    Kind of like:

Googling carpet cleaning in York and wanting to work with a company that does x, y, z?

We are that kind of company. We do x, y, z. What's more, our past clients love the way we do it. Check our reviews to the right (or on our testimonial page), or check us out on Yelp (give link, to open in new page).

York Homeowners Looking to Hire a Carpet Cleaner!
Get 1 room cleaned for free, just so you can see what kind of work we do and how we treat you.

This is how it works, we come to your home, we give you a quote, we clean one room for free. If you like what we did with that room, we clean the rest of your home at the agreed upon price.

(What's in it for them? They get to see that you do a good job without paying for it.

What's in it for you? Most people, unless you suck to high heaven, will not tell you to leave when you're already in their home with your vacuums and steamers deployed.

(I know, I know, it's stink to high heave, but I'm an original. Live with it!)

By the way, did you look into what Joe Polish does? https://www.google.com/search?q=joe+...k1.PKAPoj5N_QM He's into carpet cleaning and marketing and good at marketing. Maybe at cleaning carpets too.
