Anyone willing to provide some specific adsense advice?

I've had some really up and down results with adsense. Ive tweaked and tested a bunch, and every time I feel like Im on a good path with a good ctr and good earnings on a daily basis for a few days or weeks, it all just randomly comes to a screeching halt one day with my CTR and earnings hitting absolute zero. This happens without me having made any changes to anything so I just dont understand it.

I tend to get around 500-700 unique visitors a day, so its not huge, but enough to know that with a non-spammy blog, and fairly well thought out adsense placement and colors, I should be getting something.

Are you still getting the same amount of traffic when your earnings drop to zero or are you just losing rankings and then earnings?

      Thanks for the response.

I still get the same range of traffic those days, 500-700 unique visitors, with about the same % of them coming from the search engines, and the same % of them being my regular visitors.

You should make your Adsense ads look as a part of your web page. They shouldn't look like an Ad. People are negative to advertising. They search the internet for content not ads.

Especially for Banners - they have a less of 0.5% response.
Their days are over. Imagine if you have an Adsense ad looking like the typical Banner with different colors. It will not be profitable.

AggieMom, thanks for the feedback. I do have the ads blended pretty well I think. Im using text only, no images, and I've got a 160x600 in the sidebar of my blog, and then two 468x60 ads in the text of each blog post that are set to rotate at random in terms of location within the post.

The strange thing is that I have had success with some of the changes that I've made, I mean I saw CTR go up a good amount from making some changes for a anywhere from 2-10 days, then suddenly it goes back to no clicks or just 1-2 clicks for days at a time. Maybe Im not being patient enough?

Maybe, but there is also one of the best tricks is to erase the borders of Adsense ads and make them, again, having the same color with your website's background.

And, no other advertisements. The first reason is to be legitimate according to Google's Rules and the second more practical reason is that you do not want to distract your visitor's attention and go somewhere else without clicking your Adsense ads.

    Hope that will help!

OMG.. yankee, i am in the same situation as you! Finally i could relate to someone like me.

I getting similar traffic as you. and my ctr and earnings hover up and down this few period.

On the bad days, i could get invalid clicks or 1cent clicks and my CTR will drop to close to zero!

Will be subscribing to you for more updates.

AggieMom - No borders on my ads, blended background color, and no other ads either. I mean my CTR is seriously all over the place. It was what I consider to be acceptable after my last changes, and now its back to something that is incredibly low. It seems as if I make one change and it goes back up for a day or two, and then slowly makes its way back down to a miserably low %. Very frustrating. Thanks for the feedback though, everything is much appreciated at this point.

SakeSushi - Yeah I have no idea whats going on, but itis very frustrating how much it fluctuates. It doesnt seem to make sense to go from 10-12 clicks a day to 1 or none.

that what i get on the "bad days" but probably once a week or so. might be when i am doing updates to the site.

instead of thinking about why the CTR suddenly dropped, i prefer focusing my attention on growing other sites.

Some how after, looking thru the sept adsense results. i decided not to spend too much time tweaking the site here and there after i have done several tests to improve the CTR.

Decided to stick with the current "best" CTR layout and move on and focus on increasing traffic, with increase traffic, even though the CTR % is low, the amount of clicks will definitely increase.

I am a newbie at this so what I say may not be worth considering but have you looked closely at your content? Is it super focused with respect to each page on your site keyed to only one keyword phrase each?

Or are your pages all over the place mentioning this or that and talking about all kinds of things that take away from the focus on one keyword phrase per page?

The up and down yo yo CTR might be explained in part by a lack of clear cut focus to your pages.

Just my 2 cents for what they are worth.

Hi Carlos, all feedback is always welcome, so thank you.

You raise a good point, I think my content is targeted, but its like this:

Its a blog that is updated 3-4 times a week, I dont want to give away my actual niche, but Ill use the example of hardware for a hypothetical. The site has reviews on chainsaws, screwdrivers, hammers, and lawnmowers that are new or innovative for some reason. Each post reviews one of these items, and the standard ads that I see displayed on my home page are for Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, and some local hardware stores, along with some specific ads for individual tools.

If you go to a page with just a review you will usually see ads for something related to that individual tool. If its a screwdriver, you will see ads for screwdrivers, or the brand of tool that is reviewed, or you will see ads for tool belts or screws....all pretty related. I do get the occasional mismatch like an ad for bartender school on a page with screwdrivers, but I use the competitive ads filter in adsense to eliminate those instances when I see them.

Im not sure if the broad range of "tools" that I review on my site cause too general of an advertising range, but it honestly seems like when I make changes, the CTR goes up for a few days, then goes back down, so Im less inclined to believe its content related, and more inclined to think its just something related to positioning or timing of changes somehow. Anyway, I hope my hypothetical situation with "tools" and "HomeDepot" didnt confuse anything, and thanks again for your feedback.
