This thread might be a little lengthy... I apologize in advance.

So here's the deal... I am in the biz opp niche. MLM's, Instant Pay programs, that type of thing...

I've been blogging for years and have built some domain authority. I also write usually at least 1000 words when I want to rank for something. Sometimes I write 1500 to 2000 word articles, anything to beat my competition, right?

Anyways, in my niche... one thing that most people write articles about are

-Company Name
-Company Name Review
-Company Name Products
-Company Name Scam

so on and so forth...

So there are a few particular people that always seem to outrank me. And one guy in particular who seems to get #1 spots and STICK there for a very long time.

I can think of several keywords this little f*cker has been on the #1 spot for over a year now.

My main question is how do these guys rank for sometimes 3 keywords at the same time with just one article?

    Hey sownsow,

What you explained is very normal. In fact, if you are optimizing your pages correctly you SHOULD be ranking for several variations of your keyword with each page.

I'm not sure exactly which keywords you're referring to of course but let's suppose that you are talking about the 4 versions you mentioned.

    -Company Name
    -Company Name Review
    -Company Name Products
    -Company Name Scam

Those keywords are all very tightly 'themed' and it should the same page should be ranking for all of them.

It's also VERY easy to optimize a single page for all the keywords above.

    Check this example:

Of course, just because you CAN rank for many keywords on one page doesn't mean you always want to go that route.

Like I said, it depends how tightly themed all the keywords are + what the SERP is showing currently...

The easiest way to tell this is to perform a google search for each keyword your wanting to rank.

If the search engines are consistently showing the same pages ranking for all the terms you typed in...then that's what it wants to see.

Always a case by case basis.

It goes without saying that you always need to take into consideration how well your competition is doing with their backlinking and anchor text.

    Hope that helps.
