I want to rank one of my images for a keyword in google image search results

How can I do so? Should I build backlinks directly to the image address or to the page address where the image is uploaded?

I don't want to rank in organic text results, I just want my image to rank on the top of google image search results.

    You can put a name in your image.


    I have done this plenty of times to rank for the image.


    Another good way is to create a video and upload to Youtube as Google owns Youtube and videos rank very well, then select the image as your "thumbnail" (in your Youtube account) and the image will appear for your youtube video and if you rank it well, it will be on top of the search engines

      I have watermarked my images with the site name.

      But still no rankings yet.
      I don't want youtube to rank for my image, I want my site to rank for it.

      Do building backlinks directly for the image link will help?

    You want to rank organically for images. So, build links to the image, rename the image using the keyword, give it a url that uses some useful words/keywords, that kind of thing.

        Yes, you can get your images to show up at the top of the row of images, and if Google shows a bunch of images in the general SERPs (you know, a row of images), you can get there too, just with the image optimization if there's not much competition. If there's competition, you need backlinks.

    Add your targeted keyword in the alt+text section of the images.....try to use a low competitive keyword for ranking your images...and try to use a long tail keyword (LTK) for your image...LTK are ranked easily in search engine...!!

    Having appropiate file name, title, alt and descriprion tags when uploaded, should be enough to rank well. Better you optimize this file size before you upload it, try Photoshop or Tiny. Then put it on Pinterest, Flickr, Google+....

    Yes, that's exactly how images are ranked. Make sure they're followed backlinks just the same as ranking a webpage.

    Nothing else will rank an image like followed backlinks from webpages with their own followed backlink profile/s.

      Tommy, the image is content. If it's a good image, it's good content, no other content required.

      Simple and straightforward doesn't seem to cut it. I'm thinking that, after advice like yours, to have it taken seriously, one must add things like:

      check the domain age, make sure you get some bookmarking backlinks, post articles in article directories and create profiles and stick your link in nofollow forum posts because Google wants 30% of your backlinks to be nofollow.

      Go figure!

    You have to build good content with the image that you need SEO. Then you SEO for posts on top of google, the image will top.

    You also remember the keyword needing SEO on the ATL tag of the image.

    Rename the image with your target keyword. Do image submisssion. You will get result. Post that image on social media also.
