UPDATE: I described this case wrong at first, now I described it better

Hello,

I have written some perfect, long articles... But I didn't do any KW-research at the time, so the articles are not focused on any keyword that people search for. Now I want to start adjusting the articles a little bit so that they do target a keyword (So, among other things, I change the title tag, meta decription and keyword density to match an actual keyword with searches).

Now there are 2 options. Which one is the way to go?

Option 1:
Delete that blog article that doesn't rank, preserve the text of it, and put it in a brand new blog post and use that text, with adjustments, so that it is focussed on a new keyword.
Advantage: new blog posts get a boost from Google. It is a fresh start.

Or...

Option 2:
Keep that blog article, and just update it right there so that it focusses on a new keyword.
Advantage: updating a blog article is a ranking factor.

Which one to choose?

Thank you in advance!

I think this is familiar to all of you:

Let's suppose you write 100 blog awesome, long articles.

Roughly 10 of them rank superbly.

70 of them rank pretty good, and they need to be updated to perform better.

20 of them don't rank at all for the keyword that you chose to write the article about.

    OK. This is pretty normal.

-> What to do with those 20 blog articles that won't rank at all for your chosen keyword?
It is obious: change the keyword to some other keyword.

    For example:
A blog article about the keyword 'class management' can be changed to a blog article about the keyword 'how do I get my students to listen?'

So, you change the title tag, meta decription and keyword density to match your new keyword.

I would go with option 3. Build some links and get the things ranking better.

    • Totally agree. Thanks!!

Also, I actually just updated my question. The case was actually different. Thank you for your reply, and could you take a look at the new case?

      Thank you!

I'm very agree with MikeFriedman Deleting old links is not a good idea. Yes create some new links.

If my posts are not under page 5 I would just go with option 2 followed by option 3 suggested by Mike.

Build some relevance to that post by posting articles on domains and linking in context to that page.

Wait a bit, then see what happens.

If it's a more competitive keyword, send backlinks to the domains you are linking from to power up those a little.

    • Thank you for your thoughts.

I now see that I have described the casus wrong hahah: my keyword is not competetive at all....

I actually wrote a perfect article that is based on a keyword that has 0 searches per month (I didn't KW-research). So now I want to focus that article on a different keyword.

So now should I go for option 1 or 2?

I hired a company to write for my blog and 8'months in none of the articles get any traffic. Now that I'm taking a closer look at things it seems that there is no traffic for the keywords in the titles or URL of the post. I think that they are pretty useless. Im not sure what to do with them. I could build links to them, but I don't think anyone would be interested if they found them.

        • That's exactly also my case.

So what do you think is the best of the 2 options?

I'm going to start doing some keyword research today.

The issue I'm going to have is these articles are Seinfeld. Milk toast bs that are pretty much about nothing.

It is bad, but here is a lot of easy ways are available by which you can focus perfect keyword. I am giving some of the useful and tested ways below.
    1. Just update your content, and increase Your Focus Keyword density, at
    2. least 1%.
    3. Do some interlinking to your focus keyword with some article's URL.
    4. Post some new content. And give internal link to your main article, and your focus keyword in internal linking.
    5. Make all the URL index at least once.

That's it now you will be able to rank with your focus keyword.
These are the ways personally used by me, And I hope you will get the positive result with these ways.
