SEO interview question - Help needed in improving SEO in company website

Hi guys,

Last week I went for an interview for Digital Marketing. I agree I do not have that much experience in DM, but I have been following the stuff for some years.

The interviewer asked me a question

Q - How would you do SEO for website like UrbanClap com, how do you do SEO for this kind of website which does not rely on content

(BTW - For those who do not know what is UrbanClap is - UrbanClap is a startup and is doing pretty good now, it is used mainly through Apps. The business model is it connects the Customers with the Service Providers like Dance Trainers, Plumbers, Yoga trainers, Photographers etc, and they take a commission from it, you get the idea...)

Ans that I gave - You can do research in Relevant Keywords, Have a blog and write articles for which customers are looking for and use those keywords in that, Backlinking, Keyword Density, Blog and Article submission and all that stuffs

The result that he told me was I have a bookish knowledge in SEO.

1) Guys, with that incident, I have a question for you. How do you do SEO for company websites? Like if we have our own website or blog in which we have a particular topic and we do the SEO, but how do we do SEO for company websites? Can someone tell the exact strategy that you will follow.

2) And what I need to learn to be a top notch, modern updates SEO guy

    Well I would like to more views from expert on this questions. Besides I would say yes your answer was very much bookish. It clearly shows you havent done any homework before heading to the interview.

    Here what I would have asked the interviewer after his question. "If UrbanClap does not relies on content then why do you have a blog created?, This clearly shows that you know for being ranked and know into search engine you need content. Even being a Product based company content is a necessity if you are looking to get ranked higher on search engine otherwise you could solely focus on paid advertising over Social Media and other verticals."

    After that you can explain him what they are missing in content they are creating over the blog section. I see most of the content are just hashed and compiled does not adds much value to the service. You can show some other brands that does very good in the content with the services like hootsuite and others Overall it all depends on your homework.

        Since that website UrbanClap is confined to a particular country only and after a bit of research I find that the competitors of it are not that strong. But If It was in starting I would work on these link building methods.

        Paid Links, Press Releases, Creating a buzz from Online Magazines, Local Directory Submissions, Hardcore Promotions over Social Media targeting the right audience(very important else you would end up spend more then generating profit).

        I could only come up with these methods right now. Looking forward to more suggestions from other members.

    I would have stopped the interview when you said keyword density.

    The interviewer failed when they said keyword density was knowledge.

    You're not going to learn SEO overnight but on the other hand the basics never change (never), plain text + followed backlinks from webpages with their own followed backlink profiles.

    Its all about words ..

    If i were you , I would reply : How would you do SEO for website like UrbanClap com, how do you do SEO for this kind of website which does not rely on content?
    Answer: I would do Adword Ads and Social media engagement. Business doesn't rely on Content .. But Rely on Word of Mouth.. When UrbanClap is found by fellow users, They Will promote it as per their experience.

    Note: This is the most important factor of SEO these days .. Days are over that rely only on backlinks ..

    Google uses all their resources to calculate the worth of website and finally many factors plays role in ranking website. In the Absence of content, Only Word of mouth is left.
