Local SEO. Landline vs Mobile Phone?

For ranking locally, on the website & all business directories, is there a benefit, does it help if I use a geographical landline (e.g. 0207, 0208 for London UK) over a mobile phone?

I'm just trying to decide if it's worth buying a virtual landline number in my area or stick with my mobile.

I've never tested it, and to be honest, I doubt anyone really has tested it extensively.

What I do know people have tested is conversions with having a local number. If you want local customers and prospects to call you, your conversions will be better with a local or toll free number than with an out of area number.

I don't think that it will work. Mobile or land phone numbers are irrelevant.

+1 to MikeFriedman and expmrb. I don't think it's important as a variable of mobile or landline.

Realistically, a Google+ profile would do you justice to list both a landline and a mobile, just make sure the landline has the area code.

I agree with Mike, regardless of mobile or landline, the local number has a greater chance of getting a positive response from prospective clients.

That said, it would be interesting to test, though I have a very strong feeling that it wouldn't matter a bit if it was landline or a cell.

Anyone ever hear of 1-800 numbers? Get one for your smartphone....
or 808 or whatever toll free people use in the UK...the calls are forwarded to your smartphone.

That is if you are worried about something.

Local numbers have nothing to do with anything. In fact, the very idea of local numbers is rapidly going by the wayside.

Mate: landline, local or mobile numbers have nothing to do with SEO. when you website is optimized, Google shows a Call button that will get redirect to your linkedin number (in Google listing).

    Good luck.
