Why do you think this page isn't ranking well?

So, I've been helping a friend rank his site on Google.

Some of his pages do well and show in the first page, but there's one that's puzzling me. It's the most honest and complete review there is for a certain ebook. The actual article is about a year old, and is ranking in page 5 for its main keywords! It doesn't have many links, but there are a few natural ones, mostly nofollow.

I absolutely can't understand why, most pages that outrank it are OBVIOUSLY extremely low quality content, within websites overwhelmed by spammy backlinks. There is no variable I can think of that would make these sites outrank my friend's, for this particular review.

So, this is the article ()
Please give me your opinion, I really want to help this guy 'cuz he deserves it... Why is it ranking so poorly?

The site 2+ years old... not a lot of backlinks, but some, and natural. He only has about 20 articles in the whole thing but damn.. it's useful content (and yeah I know the niche is a bit shady but somebody gotta honestly review these things)

Thanks al ot

Here is the screenshot directly from ahrefs.

what I am observing there are no social signals at all, no off page SEO and that why it's not ranking for any keyword.

Most of the people think that writing 1000-2000 words content with images and videos is the only thing needed to rank an article.

    But today competition is different.

Check your main keyword in google and check those top 10 results websites in ahrefs (free account possible).

check backlinks for those top 10 results. If your competition is doing the better job than you, then you are not going to rank anytime in future.

writing a piece of content and waiting to rank it naturally is not a blogging, not a digital marketing, not a content marketing, not an SEO.

    Now you decide.

Thanks for your answer. I do understand backlinks are important, but Google is supposed to be able to recognize quality content over bs links. The site's competition, you're right, has plenty of backlinks. The problem is: They are all OBVIOUSLY black hat, generic links... they should be able to tell. That's what puzzles me so much... how can they show those pages... it's so damn easy to tell the content quality is zero and all links are crap. Should we try PBN's? Is that the only way it seems?....

        The keyword "is supposed" but...
if you go over first 10 pages, you'll see that it uses garbage before Content.

Lately you'll find site that nearly mention, let say "cars" before site that sells them
and I have feeling that G. is doing that intentionally, thinking that cars site is
heavily SEOed and other is real car site and backlinks have nothing to do with that.
