Is Pagination (1,2,3) SEO friendly or is there a better way for e-commerce product pages?

Hi guys
We are running an e-commerce site and since we have many products we use page 1, page 2, page 3 on the bottom of each page to reach the next available products in that same category..

Is that the best way to do if for SEO or is there a better way? Any negative things by having page 1, page 2, page 3 for your products?

    This really depends on whether or not you have content on the category pages and whether that content is the same for each page of the pagination.

    If you have no text on the category page (bad idea), it doesn't really matter. If you DO have text on the category page but it doesn't carry over onto the paginated pages, again it doesn't matter.

    If you have text on the category pages AND that text also appears on the paginated pages, you have to use rel=canonical in the <head> section of the paginated pages to tell search engines the main page that you want indexed for that content.

    Finally, we try not to paginate our categories if at all possible. Products that appear on page 2, 3, 4 etc. tend to not sell as well as those on page 1 (just like searchers seldom make it to page 2, 3 and 4 in search engines). We would rather have 50 items on one category page than paginate them.

      Thanks Dave. That makes a lot of sense that you say. So if there are 300 products what about just one product page but as you scroll down more, there would be more products loading...Is that a bad idea for SEO?

    There are some problems with infinite scroll and SEO - mostly with javascript. Neil Patel talks about it in this article - https://www.quicksprout.com/2014/05/...crolling-page/

    300 products is a whole lot of products in one category. Can those be broken up into more defined subcategories? If not, I'd probably have to go with pagination with about 50 per page or find someone who understands how to do the pretty technical stuff in Neil's article. If you DO go with pagination, put the most popular items on the first page and least popular on the last. Also, remember to use rel=canonical if the text carries over to each page.
