I am getting really low traffic on my website. So I was searching about this online and stumbled upon a google video which says meta keyword tag is irrelevant for SEO now.

So my question is should I remove the meta keyword tag?

if not,

I have a blog (google blog) and so I have put meta keyword tag in template, is there any way to have separate meta keyword tag for each post?

Google has long ignored the meta keywork tag to rank ratings. So you can leave it blank, instead you should research keywords carefully and learn about keyword density.

If you want to rank in Google, Meta Tag will not help, but if you want to rank in Bing - Meta Tag helps.

Keeping as it is will not harm your website.

In order to have separate meta keywords, install "All In One SEO" Plugin and write metas for individual for each post.

    Good luck.

Meta tags are no more intended to rank you higher. But you can still keep them on your webpage as they make no harm to your site.

It is up to you if you want to remove it or not but on the whole it makes no difference in rankings as it is not taken into consideration by Google now.

Meta tag keywords are still relevant but not as a basis in ranking site pages so use it for helping your users find your page/s and not as a manipulating method.

Meta keyword tags have been useless for SEO for a decade. If you want your competitors to know what keywords your pages are targeting, keep on using them!

Oh, and Bing DOES NOT use the meta keyword tag for SEO ranking purposes other than as a NEGATIVE signal. https://yoast.com/meta-keywords/

Did you not follow the link in my post and then follow the other links in that post where Bing's Duane Forester said Bing uses meta tags as a NEGATIVE signal of a spammy site. Here is a link to the article where he says it - The Meta Keywords Tag Lives At Bing & Why Only Spammers Should Use It

Please tell me of a search engine that anyone cares about where meta tags actually help your website.

It doesn't harm you. It also does not work and is a complete waste of time.

Why not write your domain on a piece of paper. Put it under your pillow and sleep on it.

            Now, just like you said...

I don't need to tell you. Follow the link and let Bing's Duane Forester tell you how they see it as a spammy signal. And yeah, I think Duane Forester knows how his company's search engine works a little better than a w3schools guide that might have been written a decade ago does.

But, go ahead and still use them. You seem to know more than the people who actually work at the search engines.

Meta tag is not important, it's just tell you about what inside the webpages. You have to create powerful backlink on dofollow third party sites.

The giant SE Google simply ignores the meta tag these days. So, make your decision what you want to do with your meta keyword tag.

I would be asking, does this keyword have any traffic, first thing i would check is the keyword searches, targeting a keyword with no traffic is fruitless.

Would also check the value of the keyword, i would write a compelling description as people are more likely to click the link, in fact, it is imperative if you do not have backup content on site which is appeasing at the start and keeps people reading.

Finally, check backlinks to domains, content on these sites, may even use content structured links.

  • It must be 10 years since the "Google does not use the keyword tag for ranking" story came out. Everybody bought into it, including myself.

The truth is, nobody really knows. I believe that the keyword tag has its purpose, if not for ranking for other uses. One of those could be to help further determine your page's topic and that has value, not just for ranking. So my own opinion is to use it, help Google and other search engines and even other crawlers that may have nothing to do with ranking. I wouldn't remove it and would continue to add them. Just use properly and don't go overboard; no more than three key phrases and separate them with commas. Don't separate each word with a comma as I've often seen.

One thing for sure, never, and i mean never use keywords in tags or keyword tags you do not have content for, video or otherwise, doing this is the quickest way to send you site from hero to zero.

Meta keyword tag will not help you to rank your website or blog in google. But if you want to rank your blog or website in Bing or Yahoo search engines meta keyword tag will help you.
