.com or .asia Domain - Does it matter for SEO Rankings?

Hey Guys,

I wonder if it makes a difference whether you register a .asia or a .com domain for ranking purposes? Would it take longer time with a .asia domain or it would not matter? We focus our services in Asia so this is why I am not sure which one?

Millions of thanks for your help.
Chloe

Do you wish to ever go global? If Yes then its best to use .com in my opinion.

In most cases, the TLD does not affect the ability for a site to rank. The exception to this rule is a country code TLD, where Google uses those for geotargeting.

A .jp domain name would be given regional geotargeting priority in Japan, for instance, meaning it is probably a site that only caters to that specific country. A .jp domain name would have a harder time ranking well in the U.K. than a site that was .com or .uk.

In this case, it wouldn't matter. Although .asia may look like a country code TLD, it isn't (Asia is not a country, after all). The .asia TLD is a sponsored generic TLD so it would not perform any better than a .com one for targeting countries in Asia.

    Hi Chloe,

When most folks around the globe type in a domain name, they add .com. Few folks add .asia methinks, even in asia. Go with .com to access a global audience.

I was simply answering the actual question, which was which is better for SEO? The answer remains the same - neither.

In terms if which is better for actual users, it depends on whether or not seeing "asia" in the TLD will make users feel more confident or less confident in purchasing. I am inclined to think that in most cases, .com will be seen as more credible than .asia.

      ROTFLMAO!

You know absolutely NOTHING about how the internet works.

Newsflash: Less than half of websites in the world use .com.

.com is not global. It is generic united states.

Seriously. Why do you think there is .cn, .in, .jp, ru....

      Just for laughs?

      Oh yeah...another newsflash.

You cannot use a .asia unless *gasp* you can actually show that your website serves the asia-pacific region.

You people have no clue as to how the internet works.

Do you people cross the street by yourselves? Use a fork? Wear long pants?

Obviously your services focuses in Asia so therefore .com would be the best for the extension domain name. Consider your optimization process for the target users rather than the domain name.

    Very well explained @dave_hermansen.
.com would be great if you are planning or have planned to serve globally or in multiple places. If not then you must go with ".Asia". Because, you will get less competitors in your targeted area rather than global. And, an advantage that Asia extension will help you to automatically target the local.
